All we need to do is control that first one. That worked out so well when I was a kid, in other areas of life...
I was just thinking about how when I was young it was easy to turn anger into energy, take charge and make a change. I can still do it but it's much more difficult.
It might be a little boring if all everyone posted was how much they like their favourite artists. That being said, a thread titled "The Beatles suck and you know I'm right" might be trolling a little.
I'm all for for ruthless critique of albums and songs. When I look at Metacritic, I see that 90% of the new albums reviewed are generally favorable or higher and that makes those reviews effectively worthless to me. What's the point of threads that ask people to list singers with boring voices, though? Is anyone seeking to discover such musicians? Is the world really in need of another discussion designed solely for people to bitch?
The word 'justified', which is generally defined by the person being negative, really leaves a lot of gray area LOL
I was put on ignore by someone just for dismissing the 7th LP of a band of whom I absolutely worship the first 6 (savvy posters will know the band from this description). There is a deep vulnerability in talking music on line for some reason. I'm still cogitating on it. "Speech" and "threads" are very different social interactions. I think we should all keep that in mind and not forget.
On the positive side I started a thread on vocaloids a while back knowing that there is not a lot of affection for them here. While the thread didn’t get a huge response, I was somewhat surprised by the politeness and civility even from those who had serious objections to this technology.
I wonder sometimes, if whomever developed this show, was contemplating The Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse, and The Death of Conversation at once.
I don't think it's negativity just to be negative, it's the way in which displeasure of an artist or music is expressed. Unfortunately, some people don't know what diplomacy is. They just lash out with whatever words spew out of their mouths, intentional or not.
As an example, discussing separation of art/artist, objectively poor mastering, half assed reissues, I could go on.
It started way before The View. Remember Geraldo, Sally Jesse Raphael, Jerry Springer, Morton Downey, Jr, and all the others?
People wish to appear to have very refined standards and delight to point out things that they're too good for.
Before I post the following thread, I'd like to get a sense of interest: What is the worst use of a Bb in 21st century pop music?
