It's one thing to have a variety of opinion but when there's a new thread every day just inviting people to list things that they hate or that disappoint them, one starts to wonder what the fascination is.
I know what you mean. I really dislike all the threads slagging different bands and musicians. Unless it concerns the Eagles.
What 'negative' threads? Anything that's deemed to rock the 'everything's wonderful in the music biz' boat is inevitably nuked.
LOL, I refrain from saying much lest I appear hypocritical. But on a positive note, out of all their songs, there are a few I like.
I don't want to point out specific threads and for sure have no intention of bashing any members here. It's just an observation. And no, sadly not all is wonderful in the world of music... but so much is. Music, I don't think I would want to live without it.
Is that the secret motivation behind the "For those who are weary of constant Beatles/Paul McCartney threads and posts" thread that I just had to close? There are myriad places people can go to grind their political and social axes online. This is an oasis where we try to keep the water untainted by any of that. It should not be frustrating for anyone who is not looking to poison the well themselves.
There's something to this, though. Starting this thread comes from the same impulses that drive other kinds of criticism. I think we're drawn to stories of conflict and struggle; that's the basis of drama. And we also have a basic drive to fight for control of our environment. Ripping things we don't like can help clarify our thinking, but it also sets out markers in our cultural space. This is great and important to me, but this thing sucks; I want you to agree, let's center our attention on this great and important thing, and marginalize the thing that sucks. I will be happier if more people are into this great thing because it's a central part of the public cultural space, and I don't have to be reminded so much of the thing that sucks whenever I get online, turn on the radio/tv, or go out in the world, anymore. Every single one of us has that drive. Some people will pretend that they're just here on the internet to celebrate their favorite thing, but they tend to get mad if you criticize that thing, and the knives will come out when push comes to shove. You may be accused of being closed-minded, out of touch, and it's the things you like most that actually suck. This seems to be especially true when their favorite thing is already central to contemporary pop culture. They're not used to pushback on their faves, and they also don't want to give up that central place where they are only validated by the media and their peers. We all want to control our environment, and writing is fighting.
I understand what the OP is getting at, but frankly, I think that this kind of negativity is endemic to the internet, not just SHF, and to human nature more broadly. People love to complain and pick things apart.
No he wasn't. I don't know where you got that gross misinformation from. He owned his own show that ran until the 90s. The reason he ended it was because he couldn't compete with Oprah Winfrey. He really didn't like having to put male strippers on for ratings.
Now, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum, What might be right for you, may not be right for some. A man is born, he's a man of means. Then along come two, they got nothing but their dreams. But they got, Diff'rent Strokes. It takes Diff'rent Strokes. It takes Diff'rent Strokes to move the world. Everybody's got a special kind of story; Everybody finds a way to shine. It don't matter that you got not a lot. So what? They'll have theirs, you'll have yours, and I'll have mine. And together we'll be fine! 'Cuz it takes Diff'rent Strokes to move the world, Yes it does. It takes Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Possibly result of boredom by long long time members and the diminishing overall knowledge base. Most things have been asked and answered over and over and some of the newer things questioned might bring out cynicism.
Not at all! I genuinely wondered why so many people hate The Beatles discussion. And, I figured it might be closed.
