    Holy Zoo,

Why was my ICE magazine thread yanked?

    [much speculation yanked - HZ]

I'm curious to see whether this thread will be deleted too.

[I'm going to leave it for now so others can see this discussion unfold - HZ]

    Thanks, Juan.

I can see the other forum members nodding. I just can't tell whether they're nodding in agreement, or nodding as if to say, "The poor fool has sealed his fate."

By the way, Juan, I apologize for what I said about you in my Thursday thread in Forum Business. You're OK in my book.

    Hey guys,

As the forum rules say: do not post asking why something was yanked. Rather, send email or a pm to a mod.

The "why" of this rule is simple: I don't want to get into public arguments about why we sometimes must pull threads.

More than welcome! Rememeber, Clavius and I aren't on some moderator power trip.

Honestly both of us (and Steve too) are loath to pull threads. It confuses people, and of course makes everyone think that we're facist. Believe me, we want neither of those things.

So - to answer your question: there are really just two things that will get a thread yannked (well, maybe three).

The first is a blatant violation of the personal attack rule that has gotten out of hand, to the point that it's just easier to pull the thread than to try and clean up individual posts.

The second is a thread that we feel is just too sensitive to keep around. Remember, Steve is in the music biz and has a reputation to protect, and we need to respect that.

The third is something that's wildly off topic, even in the off topic forum. For instance - posting pictures of porn (er... "pr0n" in hip-geek-speek). ;)

    Any questions?

Don't worry, Holy Zoo. I don't share my porn with anyone!

    HZ,

Number 1 is an obvious! At times, I have been amazed at the lack of professionalism, level of intolerance and respect displayed in some posts.

Number 2 is a reality that we all have to remember about the Forum. Certainly, as a Forum member I am not in favor of a high level of "supression" but at the same time I am a business professional and understand how certain comments can be misunderstood especially when taken out contextual realities of a Forum discussion. The last thing I would ever wish to see is Steve's business opportunities, in some way, hurt because of posts written in this Forum.

Having participated in the realities of "corporate life" for most my career, I am all too aware of the sensitivities that can occur when the "business" is at a critical mass.

Number 3 is, of course, a given!

    Bob :)

The ICE magazine forum works on a different principle. If you went over there and started a Steve Hoffman thread in the Reissues conference (where it probably belongs), the 'self-moderating' software would kick in and eventually blow up that conference and possibly take down the whole forum. No messy human intervention needed.

That's funny, I was just about to suggest that we blow up...

    Oh, never mind!

Jeff, is a "facist" a Small Faces fan, or a Faces fan? Or both?
