I was tempted by the SDE vinyl box and even preordered it when Amazon had the big price drop, but I canceled when I saw the track list. IMO it’s a real mistake to break up the different versions of the album the way they did. I’ll be more than happy with the CD version and about $80 richer.
I’m outraged too. It’s an absolute travesty. When my delayed box arrives at the house, I’m going to run it over with my electric car. :—)
Um, because they'd have to add at least 3 LPs to an already unwieldy 11 LP set. You know you can just move the stylus to the appropriate track or lift it, right???
Oh some are wishing that they isolated all of the bonus discs as their own individual albums on the vinyl set, instead of them taking up three sides each and bleeding into each other.
The "The Unified Theory of Everything" portion ends on N1 and "Lonely in the Deep End" begins on N2, for example.
Interesting. I can understand this complaint, but I think I can live with it. The alternative being 3 more slabs of vinyl to pay for?!
Oh, that’s worse than I thought. Not clean side breaks is more of a bummer. I haven’t pulled the trigger on anything yet, but for something that’s been curated as “alternate “ albums, this is too bad.
You do know they're in charge of the sequence and what goes on those (made up) records in the first place?
Yes, exactly. And they decided that including 3 or more additional LPs would needlessly increase the size and cost of this already sizable and expensive boxset. Suggesting that they should cater to specific fans’ OCD is silly. All the content is there (a spoil of riches compiled for the fans) and isn’t diminished in any way.
Where exactly did I say that this is the “best boxset ever”? Hint: I didn’t. Objectively speaking, it does appear to be a spoil of riches for fans. It’s beyond absurd to nitpick something so inconsequential when presented with this much unreleased content from a single album. Methinks you’re the one as delusional and entitled as the former guy…
I think people are maybe getting a bit carried away with contextualizing the extras. No offense. My silver 11LP set arrived yesterday. The book is awesome, and while I’ve only made it through the main (remastered) LP and the 1st LP of extras so far, I’m already in love and I’m not someone who’s always in love. I’m not going to get hung up on how well the sequencing aligns with the vinyl as I’m too busy enjoying this embarrassment of riches.
How excited am I to receive this release? I bought an optical drive just so I can rip it. It feels fitting for the 20th anniversary. Hell, 20 years ago I bought a FireWire card to connect my 10 GB iPod to my Dell and I'm sure YHF was one of the first albums I loaded on it.
