I got some of the "Deluxe" editions thanks to PopMarket at discount prices. The "Ram" one is a thing of beauty, the non-disc extras all are sort of inessential but all are actually nice things. Plus a real variety of disc things. The "Band on the run" one is a good compilation of the stuff that was already issued, and sits nice next to Ram. I've not opened the "Macca 2" one, but hey - one day. I would like the "Wild Life" and "RRS" ones, but as per "Flowers in" they are getting kinda pricey and the channels for cheap ones seem to have gone. $400 seems quite fair given the quantity of stuff, but. Might have to stick to the 2 disc versions this time.
Is this available to order in the U.K. ? I can only find US prices on web site? Anyone , I getting Anxious Here!! peace and love✌Dave
And of course the hardcore fan only wants to pay 10 bucks or less for something that has undergone years of researching in the archives, has employed hundreds of people in the audio departments, the marketing departments and the design departments. Of course. Again, certain editions are available, depending on ones interest. Regarding ‘low-tier’ albums: So, you are expecting to pay less, because you think they are bad albums? Hilarious.
Read again before criticising: $400 is only for the ultra big edition with the 2 big boxed sets AND the Wings Over Europe album. You are in that set, treated with 11 discs of music and film! Plus books, posters, badges, photos etc. It’s a piece of art and the price is thereafter. If you want the two seperate boxed sets only, they cost far less. And if you just want the basics, there are the standard 2 disc versions or the vinyl editions. No need to complain here, as all needs are covered. If you pay more, you will get more. Simple.
As someone who only buys the 2-disc sets, it's a little weird that I'll soon own 2 different masterings of "Country Dreamer" on 2 different albums. That song should have been released exclusively in the box set. Or is this a different version?
But look at the relative upsides You can buy the two boxes on amazon in the US for approx 250 dollars. So that means that for 1CD and a book you are being charged 150 dollars. That's not a piece of art its exploitation. I agree there is a balance here and I'm hardly ever annoyed by pricing, this is only the second time from a beatle related perspective I've felt ripped off, but this is not a remotely justifiable delta.
I was wondering, if this is the exact same version on both sets, maybe Band On The Run will get a reworked Archive edition in the future?
Now we have the press release (there's a press release?) confirming the release it's time to move discussion on these reissues to a new thread in the run up to the release date, ready for the various track listing discussions, shipping updates, personal reviews etc. I'm sure we're also all looking forward to receiving a new 'Coming Soon' card in the box sets that'll tell us what albums we can start debating next! Thanks folks! [Moderator note: If you want to flip through the seven months of speculation leading up to this press release, you can review that thread here.] Press Release: Looking forward to participating in the discussion these next few months with you all!
We're talking about value for money. Of course nobody is holding a gun to our heads and none of us have to buy these boxsets but it's a discussion thread so hey, let's discuss the price too. Considering that CDs are dying, people find spending ten bucks on an album a decidedly obsolete thing to do and streaming is king...these boxsets are positioned precisely at babyboomers with disposable income. We are being fleeced. Most of us turn a blind eye because we want the product seemingly at any price but is an old album from the 70s, a hard backed book and some audio extras previously thought financially worthless really worth what they're asking? The prices being asked for boxsets is getting ridiculous IMO.
I ordered the bundle. Expensive? Sure. But cheap compared to my wife’s recent purchase of $800 Gucci shoes and $400 Gucci sandals. It is time for me now.
I gotta say, I've never placed a pre-order (and been charged, no less!) prior to the official announcement. Again, a big thanks to @Marry a Carrot for just sharing the info without any confusing and cryptic hints or teases. I figured you might know something when you said replied that the bundled set might just be a slip case... of course, as you later shared, you didn't know about Wings Over Europe when you wrote that! I won't be itching or whining about the price. Yeah, it's pretty damn steep. But this is what I've wanted from an Archive edition. These two albums especially have such a dearth of known material that anything less than what we are getting would be a disappointment. I know I'm getting way ahead of it all, but I can only hope that London Town and Back To The Egg will be treated similarly. IF the double disc Red Rose Speedway is using alternate mixes, one would hope that I Lie Around is still the normal single mix, since it doesn't appear anywhere else. On a similar note, I'm curious now as to what mix we'll be getting for Mama's Little Girl: the previously released mix, which features overdubs done in the 80's, or an unreleased version without such adornments. What will Seaside Woman be like? There is a bootleg of a version as the song was originally, before it was spruced up in 77. And maybe I asked this, but what versions of Tragedy and Night Out will we be getting? I'm not really looking for answers, I should mention. These are all just my reactions and rants. I'll be able to listen for myself and answer 'em all in two months! Mama's Little Girl (song)

Okay, I see they are doing a release of stuff from the '73/'73 tours...my mistake. That'd probably be the only thing I'd be interested in as far as these particular Deluxe Editions go.
Man, all those box set and vinyl announcements are killing me. I'll be totally in for the Red Rose Speedway double album!
Apologies for the thread confusion, in the speculation thread many members liked my suggestion of starting a new thread with the official announcement, so I had one ready to go, with tracklists etc, yesterday, which I recently posted. However, I didn't notice that another thread was started last night, and these have both been merged, so sorry for my 'reposts' of tracklists etc that have been merged in. A shipping/price thread was also started. It's been a confusing half an hour. As I said before, looking forward to enjoying discussion on these releases for the next few months!
I got the box sets before Wings Over America but I thought that one overpriced so I passed, if these had 5.1 I'd be all over them, but without it...no. 400 for the deluxe is a bit much IMO but I'm poor after all the box sets I've already gotten...shame this one is so over the top as I love both of those albums and have since day 1....but....I'm sure they'll get released in surround at some point and that's when I'll jump. Nice to see Give Ireland...version finally get a cd release.
