Thor opening for PIL in 1986. edit I changed my mind Rage Against the Machine opening for Porno for Pyros. They seemed to think they were at some kind of a political rally.
The Ministry of that era sounded far different from what Ministry became. It actually sounds like a good pairing. That said, I am not a fan of their material done before the Land Of Rape And Honey.
The Dead Daisies opening for Aerosmith. Their cover of "All Right Now" was dire and sums up the middle of the road black approach to music they have.
Park Doing, who I saw open for Guided by Voices at Saturday's concert in wonderful Jacksonville, Florida, was pretty darn horrible. Luckily he only made the crowd suffer through three terrible songs.
I , like many here, have seen lots of shows, and left many a gig wondering what was the promoter thinking lumping acts together, Joan Jett and the police seems inspired compared to black mountain and Coldplay but easily the worst act was Toronto band FRIGS , opening for slowdive. Worst ever
Against Me opening for Foo Fighters in 2008 Holy hell you couldn't tell one song from another and it was just constant static for their entire performance.
Primo Kim with the Everett Philharmonic Orchestra. It was like the exact same/exact opposite of Randy Watson with Sexual Chocolate, if you get my reference.
Bob Weir opening for Bob Dylan in 2012. I wasn't a Grateful Dead fan or a Bob Weir fan, therefore I wasn't familiar with ANY of the songs performed. It was an acoustic set and I remember being completely bored and thinking this could be any old guy strumming his guitar and singing these songs. Sorry Dead and Weir fans.
The irony of a Bob Dylan fan not liking an acoustic set by an opening act, when in 1965 Bob Dylan upset many fans by going "electric" is hilarious.
A band called Fools Gold, who described their music as “Afro pop” whatever that means. Had to endure them before Red Hot Chili Peppers. To be actually worse than RHCP is saying something isn’t it?
There have been a lot of bands like that. Fool's Gold, Caribou (if I don't mix up one indie band with another which happens quite a bit), Vampire Weekend...For a while, it was cool and hip to put some african sounds in indie pop/rock music, with Congolese guitar phrasing, referencing to Fela in interview etc. The trend seems to have pretty much died out by now.
Quartflash The Kix Loverboy And, this is hard to believe, the single worst opening act I’ve ever seen was BB King, opening for Peter Frampton. He just sat on the drum riser, talking to people in the front row, for literally his whole set! He played about 30 seconds of guitar on The Thrill Is Gone, other than that, all we saw was a one sided conversation, with a crowd of about 10,000. It was embarrassing for him.
Afghan Whigs opening for Teenage Fanclub, early '90s. I know the Whigs are well-regarded; I just found the singer obnoxious and it deterred me from ever trying to get into them.
Terrible band that should have NEVER be labelled as "grunge" in the first place. They might have been from Seattle but they sounded like a watered down LA band (even Mother Love Bone sounded like arena/cock rock).
I can't even remember who opened for Rush when I saw them in '87. I remember Candlebox opening for them in '94 also. They were AWFUL. I bought their first album after having seen them, and liked it a bit. I liked their second album Lucy even more. Funny, I saw Living Colour at a bar called The Varsity in Baton Rouge. Their opener was supposed to be Candlebox, who dropped out of the tour. Turned out to take the opening spot in the Rush tour.
