I'd say not. But that's more a reflection of my own taste. Like Nirvana, mostly dislike Oasis. However, I kinda like the stuff Kurt liked on the whole, off kilter type stuff. And I love the Beatles. It doesn't necessarily follow that Beatles fans are Oasis fans.

perhaps corporate is the wrong word but what they recorded for their debut album really went through the mill before its eventual release.

Wait ! There is inevitably more speculative b*ll*cks to come when some bright spark ponders what Liam Gallagher thinks about Nirvana. Patience please

I'd agree with that yes. Most Beatles fans see right through Oasis in fact.

That is the only way that we can make a somewhat informed guess; what music did Kurt like and was any of it similar to Oasis ? Kurt was a big Beatles fan, and Oasis loved the Pistols, who Kurt also liked. Was Kurt known to be a fan of any other melodic 60's influenced rock ?

When asked whether he liked any contemporary UK music at the time, he responded by singing Blur's 'There's No Other Way'.

I'm not Oasis's biggest fan but I have a feeling he might have initially liked the songs on definitely maybe, perhaps would have got grated by their shenanigans and attitude thereafter maybe.

I am no Cobain aficionado, but from what I understand he had pretty broad taste in music. Sure he liked punkish stuff, but he liked all sorts of stuff from what I understand, I mean he liked Kiss, and in the nineties that wasn't exactly super popular.
Kurt was tearing himself in two, wanting to be successful, but not wanting to be seen as a sell out ... He was deep in addiction and like many pop/rock stars before him, needed help and counselling . Sadly he never got it, even if he would have listened to it.

IMO - Try all they might to be rawk n roll Oasis were slick, bland, derivative and as commercially driven as any of the alterna gods that arose in Nirvana's wake. He wouldn't have taken them seriously at all.

I don't think he would have liked them at all.

But I think, when asked about them, he'd have deflected the question by saying he hadn't heard them yet, or something similar. I think KC was generally quite polite about artists he didn't like, though he made a few witty comments about some of them that stopped short of being offensive.

Probably not. They weren't underground enough for him.

Interestingly, Oasis is Cobain’s daughters’ (Frances Bean’s) favourite band.

didn't Courtney liked Oasis ? since she was the one wearing the pants in that household, Kurt would've had no choice but to like them

Well, peoples tastes change so....who knows? And on top of that...what artists say publicly is not always what they think privately. So the answer is: maybe!

  24. Kurt who? Seriously though Nirvana never did anything for me and I loathe that teen spirit song so I care not what some guy who topped himself might have thought about a band that went on to great success after he died, had he not killed himself.

Oasis haters are getting as tired and repetitive as post 2000 era Oasis records. Their first three albums were a lot of fun though and still hold up. Hopefully with time people will disassociate Neil Young's Hey Hey My My song from Cobain's suicide note.

Oasis were drunken, boisterous, testosterone-laden troublemakers who apologized for absolutely nothing. Cobain was a dour, self-pitying smackhead who hated overt displays of masculinity. Oil and water.

(In Utero is still one of the great albums of the decade, though.)
