Oasis might not be 'corporate', but they were all about swaggering machismo, and their nonsense lyrics never meant a bloody thing. My guess is - and my personal taste is actually pretty close to Cobain's fave-rave lists, though I'm a few years older - that he'd have had absolutely no time for them. I loved T Rex, I loved the Pistols, I love lots and lots of Beatles... that in no way follows that I'd be remotely interested in a laddish, terrace pastiche of those acts.

Oasis were the last real Rock n Roll band before Rock music died. Noel Gallagher is a genius songwriter and Liam has one of the greatest voices in rock history. Just listen to Cigarettes & Alcohol, Supersonic or Live Forever... Those are f#cking tunes, man. Can't argue with that unless you're a hater.

Sorry for trying to inject some humour into the thread! I will now answer the question: No, I don’t think he would have.

Quite ironic that you are being dismissive of any post-Oasis rock band, yet you call him a hater.

Except that the 'corporate rock' band was on an indie label (Creation Records), while the posterboys of alternative rock were aided and abetted by a real major record company (Geffen).
As for the supposed obnoxiouness of the Gallagher brothers, I actually know a few journalists and a photographer who had the pleasure to work with Nirvana, and according to them Cobain could be as obnoxious and difficult as any other primadonna rock star.

I've no problem with either Kurt or the Gallaghers being obnoxious and difficult. The music though, that's another thing.

Oasis were actually signed to Sony Records who licensed the band to Creation in the UK . Alan McGee had already sold half of Creation to Sony 2 years before Definitely Maybe came out although I do agree that Oasis were never what I would call Corporate Rock.

If he hated guns and roses so much, I can't imagine he wouldn't hate Oasis just as much for mostly the same reasons.

    Sort of.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who was going with the girl who saw Kurt pass out at a 31 Flavors in Manchester back in 1991. I guess it was pretty serious because she said he saw an early Oasis gig and thought they were “alright, I guess”.

Not sure what mill you're referring to, but Oasis' debut didn't exactly sound like Bon Jovi. Even in comparision with US alt.rock bands like Pearl Jam or Stone Temple Pilots 'Definitely Maybe' was still a pretty fuzzy and gritty affair (Granted, Be Here Now is a different story...)

First thought no, but a lot of people with otherwise unimpeachable music taste seemed to like Oasis back in the day, so possibly.

DOI: Still bitter that I bought Definitely Maybe in 1994 on the strength of the hype to find I’d acquired an album that did almost nothing for me.

Kurt said if he could be in any other band it would be the BMX Bandits, that seems a long way from Oasis.

He probably would have thought they were corny, pompous and reductive.
