Would you pay $800 for a mint copy of the RL Led Zeppelin II?

I have found a local seller who has a mint copy of this album. I actually went out to take a look at it and the thing is flawless. Not a mark on it. I asked the guy how he got it. He said it was in his late father's collection. His father had many rock LPs that he hardly played. I guess he mainly listened to his music on 8-track in the car back in the day and rarely played the LPs. He wants $800 for it and will not take a penny less. He knows about the whole RL thing from doing his own research so he knows exactly what's up. I want it but I just can't bring myself to do it. I do already own a copy that's in pretty rough shape that I play regularly. That will probably be the only copy I ever own with the prices this title fetches these days.

Of course not. As much as I love LZ II, no album is worth 800 dollars.

Let me put it this way: if you had a VG copy that cost $200, and a mint copy that cost $800, would you feel like the difference was worth $600 to you?

There are definitely albums I would pay $800 for. Not many, but they exist. Zep II is not one of them.

I personally wouldn't pay that much, but it may be worth it to someone. Furthermore, if I did pay that much for a record, I wouldn't want to use it as a "play copy." It would be just to say I have it and to make a digital dub.

No, but I'm sure SOMEONE will. Not a huge Zep fan, but I have paid more for a NM pressing of an even rarer record (Springsteen Born To Run script cover). The thing with records like these in high grades is that there will always be a market for them, so while it may seem a crazy price to pay, chances are the buyer will be able to make money on it down the road.

I'd be tempted. If I did purchase it I'd probably make a high resolution dub and then flip it. I have three RL copies now, but none of them are anywhere near mint.

I find this very hard to believe.
No one will buy this if it’s real.

I´ll pay 800 for a first row show ticket if they ever come back. You can get the vinyl reissue released about 2 years ago for much less. It sounds fantastic

No. I would pay $25 for a VG RL pressing (which I did — sounds awesome cranked) and $5 for a brilliant minty AT/GP pressing (which I did, mostly for the quieter tracks that are a bit painfully noisy on the RL) and then use the remaining $770 to buy a buttload of other records (which I also did, but don't tell Mrs. Stone Turntable!)...

When VG copies sell for $200- why is it so far-fetched to think that "no one" would pay $800- for a NM copy? That seems like a very reasonable escalation of price for a considerable condition upgrade. Especially for such a highly sought after pressing. How many RLs are known to exist in NM? Not too many, AFAIK. $800- seems about right to me.

Depends on how much "disposable" cash I have. A "mint" (mint means sealed, right?) would be something to have for sure.

You'd likely get just a good a sound playing a 'lesser' copy for a lot less, and spending $800 on a cartridge!

Just because it "looks" mint doesn't mean it sounds mint. I'd want to hear it before I lay out that kind of coin.

If I would be able to play it on different turntables and not a single click, not a single pop, not a hint of inner groove distortion, not a hint of off-center pressing is found then I might pay $800 for it, yes.

There's no way to tell if a sealed copy it's RL or not, so...
