Yup, they lost me too over the last months due to the increased prices. I used them fairly often in the past because of the free shipping. For me living in Europe, Wod HD was especially attractive because they offered US pressings for the same price as US customers would buy them, without any extra shipping costs or taxes. With the significantly raised prices of late, that advantage seems lost.
I was thinking of ordering Lord of Rings 4K UHD from them as it's the cheapest for me in Canada. But in their site it says that all orders ship from Shepherdsville, KY, United States. Does anyone have an idea if I buy it, will the Warner Bros. Digital code work here in Canada or if it will be region locked? Thanks.
It might be region restricted but all North America is the same region. Here's the 4K Blu-ray global region codes. DVD region codes.
Thanks. Yes I know all about the region codes for disc. I was asking specifically about the "digital redeem codes" from Warner Bros such as the Lord of the Rings 4K UHD.
Ok, just trying to help. Unfortunately I know nothing regarding the redemption codes you speak of. Good luck with your quest.
No worries. Thanks for trying to help. Many movies come with an insert that has a code so you can get a digital copy of the movie on iTunes or Google Play or in the US Movies Anywhere etc. Anyway, Warner Bros. replied to my question and it seems if I buy the discs from the US, the code is only valid in the US.
Yes, after I read the other thread regarding the WB fiasco I was able to finally figure out exactly what you were dealing with. That US only business is
I have an outstanding ( first) order with WOW for the Eagles self titled sacd. It has been out a little while but no sign of delivery and indeed they appear to be pushing back the release date on their website, which is starting to look a bit odd to me.
The date has been pushed back a couple of times, it's the same on the parent company web site ImportCDs. I have both Eagles titles on pre-order.
Just received confirmation that the first album SACD has been dispatched. The other is due for dispatch on the 17th (touch and go for it to reach here before Christmas).
I have received my copy of Eagles self titled sacd safely and all is well. Hopefully Desperado to follow soon.
It's now due 7th January. (I did manage to bag a copy of 'Pet Sounds' that mysteriously appeared on the web site last night and have now gone!)
I don't know delivery times in other regions but my copy of Desperado sacd has arrived safely this week and with no import issues. They might be a little slow but if they turn up without hassle then I am going to use them again.
My copy of 'Desperados' arrived with a split in the shrink-wrap at the bottom rear, so that a large white sticker was half stuck to the cover thereby damaging it. They have offered to refund 10% (yes 10%) of the item cost - how gracious of them.
The above Blu-ray region codes are for the standard HD format. UHD aka 4k Blu-ray doesn't have any region coding.
I tried to put a US release cd into my basket this morning. I selected the option that I was not using the US site. When I went to checkout it put 20% sales tax on to the price (even though they offer free UK delivery). I have taken the item back out of my basket and I will wait for a Euro seller. Is this now the norm that you have to pay VAT on any purchase?
It appears as such. Here in Canada yesterday I just received notice that eBay will be charging both buyers and sellers GST, the same as your VAT, starting July 1st. The internet party is over for us all now.
I must have missed that when I used them for some sacd releases. It is now a very fine line between ordering direct and hoping import duty and handling does not kick in or going through an "importer" who adds on their cut and might take additional time to deliver. As Dave said the party is over sadly.
I used to order from them frequently, until their prices skyrocketed. Now I don't even compare their pricing before I order elsewhere. My main vendors are ICDs, DDDVD, Grooves, Dusty Groove and sometime Amazon or Juno.
WOW just cancelled my some time ago order for the ELO Eldorado sacd saying they are unable to obtain stock. It costs me almost as much in postage to get these direct from MOFI as the cost of the discs, never mind the possibility of import duty. A quick scout around other vendors found me it on sale so thankfully I am covered but these releases are becoming very difficult for non-US buyers.
WowHD is basically ImportCDs; all owned by DirectToU LLC Yeah, in the past, and I'm talking about a few years ago, it was possible to get MFSL, Audio Fidelity and AP releases for reasonable prices, shipping included. Now, with customs and postage it's difficult to pay less than €45-50 Less expensive, but for us european / non UK buyers, purchasing stuff from Dutton Vocalion or Burning Shed has become more difficult
