So is a resume from artists that could be smooth jazz, country rock, soft rock, pop rock, pop..

I'd think it's fair to call Arc Of A Diver yacht rock...and Avalon certainly skirts the borders of it.

I think if you focus too much on artists you've already missed the point. Some acts certainly pumped out more yacht rock than others (like late stages Doobies), but plenty of acts churned out an isolated spate of yacht rock tunes. Probably the most prominent example would be Michael Jackson's "Human Nature".

So basically it's the type of easy listening pop music that one listens to while sitting on a yacht drinking wine coolers and wearing d-bag shades. Getting sloshed to the oldies.

Dolce sunglasses are the d-bag's favorites.

I'd say that's pretty close. It's the type of pop/rock you'd expect to hear on a yacht in the mid-'70s thru mid-'80s, sipping beer or maybe wine (or later wine coolers) . . . and wearing d-bag shades.

There is something about those yacht people that infuriates me.

Yes, I believe that great John O'Banion hit is of a piece with Yacht Rock; at the minimum one could definitely label it Westcoast.

When that was getting airplay I loved it, albeit slightly in a guilty pleasure sort of way. I still love it. It's even better than Toto's "Hold The Line", its inspiraton.

Great production, of its time ('81?), by Richie Zito.

Oh yeah, that's an awesome yacht rock track. Bizarre that Santana would churn out a yacht rock track, but the guy had amazing range.

"Hold On" is even more Yacht, IMO.

My wife has satellite radio in her car, and I love the Yacht Rock station, especially the way the announcer guy talks. Just noticed it returned for the season yesterday!

I remember seeing it in the early days of MTV. Carlos Santana seems to have disavowed those early 80's songs, has never played them live as far as I know since they were new. Too bad since I find them enjoyable.

It's not something I listen to every day, but yacht rock sounds good in the summer when you're sailing....in your car.

My wife listens to it also and the announcer is funny. Absolutely not my type of music but occasionally they do play The Dan.

I don’t have time to read through this entire thread but in Atlanta a band called Yacht Rock has been extremely popular since I moved here in 2012.

Yeah some of the music is delightfully tacky, but I love the whole spirit of the station. I'm good for an hour or two on a long trip for sure. Today they played Devil Woman by Cliff Richards, watching my wife roll her eyes while I was digging it was priceless!

Is it on Sirius XM? What channel number? I thought it was temporary.

I'm confused by the OP list - there are songs in there that are clearly disco, some that are R&B, some country, some arena rock ballads, and Steely Dan probably deserves a category all by themselves. I only recognize and like about 30% of the songs in this list - is "Yacht Rock" really a distinct genre if it contains so many different kinds of pop music?

What the SiriusXM Yacht Rock Channel calls "Yacht Rock" is largely NYACHT. Sometimes ridiculously so.
