I couldn't find any thread specific to this amp so here goes. I just took delivery on this particular integrated amp. Out of the box I am very impressed. I will chime in as I have some more listening time with it. It is presently connected to my Lascalas. Denon TT, Universal player and Sony XA7 ES CD player as well. I use basic roll speaker wire-nothing fancy. So far I am amazed by the build quality and sound quality. Particulars to follow.

Yesterday I pulled out "Tin Pan Alley" by Stevie Ray Vaughan which is one of my acid tests for evaluating sound reproduction. I was quickly impressed with the impact , detail and nuance of tone. I am not a reviewer obviously so I don't have an arsenal of cliches at my command but this amp definitely put me into the studio with Stevie-very tactile and visceral sound repro. No dryness or sterility whatsoever. And effortless power without any distress. I also jumped into "Morning Dew" by the National from Day of the Dead. This is favorite track from that album and I have heard it many times on several systems. Again -detail drama big scale bass and nuance of tones. All the desolate poignant emotion hanging there in my listening room. I have been mainly listening to a Denon Anniversary amp as my main tool and I love that amp. This Yamaha has more ability to paint colors and makes more bass. It presents more insight into texture and tone. I played some live Dead and some live Jerry Garcia Band-again sweating in the hall up front and center. When I said in my first post that this amp arrived-well it arrived when I hauled it out of my Rover and into my listening room after a road trip to my of my buddie's house-he ordered for me using a certain accommodation he has and I got the app at Substantial discount. At his house we unpacked , inspected and plugged it into his system and replaced his recent model McIntosh tube pre amp and amp( not sure of model numbers). He was giddy when he heard the Yammie and started wondering why the Yam was more deliciously tubelike than his Macs tube units-he now wants one of these. Anyway I will explore other parts of this amp after I have had more time to listen.

It 's on Feb 2017 issue, which I don't suppose it 's on the newsstands yet, I am a subscriber. The amp is on the cover and the extensive review/article is by Paul Seydor, he liked it a lot!

Mixed review from WhatHiFi..Saying that i'm not 100% convinced about some of their reviewing or their preceived brand bias.

No worries ....... I took a gamble that you went with the silver instead of the black.

I read that on net. I don't get what they are saying. Maybe the speakers they were using were not a good match?

I had owned the luxman 505Ux for 1 year, it didn't suit my taste I was coming from Melody50 tube amplifier, 505ux had soft sound, never heard Yamaha though.

Was it lack of power or un-pronounced highs? Can you describe what a soft sound would be? That sounds good to me but you use it as negative.
