Anyone have the new CD set? It compiles both their albums plus some extras. How's the sound quality? According to discogs, remastered by Phil Kinrade. Yazoo - Three Pieces It was formerly released on vinyl as Four Pieces, and recently on CD as Three Pieces Fan power! Pre-orders open for the 3CD edition of Yazoo’s ‘Four Pieces’ | superdeluxeedition
I ordered both the cd set and the vinyl set. Still waiting for both to arrive, but since they are shipping to USA from UK it should be a week. I’ll review once they arrive.
Pre-ordered mine from Amazon - no shipping notification yet. Hope it sounds good - the recent Cocteau Twins box I bought (Treasure Hiding) was a mess: loud and the channels reversed on at least one of the albums!
Got the 3 CD set. Look here for the DR/Peak/RMS values: Disc 1 Disc 2 Disc 3 I'm quite surprised, as far as the original albums go. Less so about disc 3, but it was to be expected that the contemporary mixes have a contemporary sound. The original albums sound good. The 2008 remasters weren't bad either, but the new ones sound less processed. The intro of Don't Go is a bit noisier on the new one, but it's supposedly due to the dialed back top-end on the 2008 remaster. Disc 3 sounds quite uneven. The Richard X Remix of Situation is prone to distortion - no surprise at a DR of 4. It may be intentional, though.
I got the 4 pieces vinyl today. OMG it’s awful I paid close to 100 notes for this!! After 36 plus years with the debut, and the 2nd album, I was excited to upgrade my slightly worn copies. First thing I notice the vinyl holders in the set is falling apart, not a good sign, I try Upstairs track 1 Don’t Go,, crackle factory, this vinyl is so noisy, I then flip it and try Only You it actually jumps, it has visual and audio damage on the vinyl, I didn’t even bother with the other 3 lps, this just looks like crazy poor quality vinyl. Also based on the first listen the new vinyl sounded less dynamic than the original 1982 version. Very disappointed.
Not sure why they would come so close to a comprehensive box but fall short and leave out Other Side Of Love, the original (classic) Situation & State Farm, Get Set, etc. I’d swap out the new mixes for all alternate mixes from singles and include the non-lp tracks.
They probably figure fans already have the 2008 box. You can find the full length 'State Farm 7 inch" on the 1990 'Situation' cd single
A unreleased track from 1983 that was only available on the iTunes download of Reconnected Live. No physical release that I know of.
The albums sound much quieter than the 2008 In Your Room remasters. Any thoughts on this? I believe that the individuals who did the remastering for both sets are well-respected.
So got my replacement 4 pieces box today from Amazon uk. Once again Only You on Upstairs at Eric’s has bad damage, both visually and audio, it sounds like a 50 year old piece of vinyl that I dug up from the yard. Does anyone know a contact email for this record company? I tried Mute, they said it’s not them.
Got the CD set today. First off, it’s (thankfully) not loud. In fact it’s surprisingly quiet and restrained; allowing for any increase in volume you care to give it without fear of discomfort. The only reference I have for comparison is the 1999 US “Best of Yaz” comp on Mute/Reprise. I specifically compared Only You from both sources and the new one has much more detail: Vince’s synth bass in particular has much more texture than the older version which is obviously kind of boosted (but still fun-sounding!). I’ve listened to both of the original albums and I like what I’m hearing.
Yeah tried them and mute. Mute tried to get them to respond, they just ignore me. I have 2 box sets with the vinyl, both badly defective pressings, been emailing BMG since release day, all contact ignored.
What's the "re-mix" version of Don't Go that's on this set? Is it the amazing 12" re-mix (below), or is it something else? (I hope it's not the instrumental remix)
If track times are correct it's the 4:09 Remix The 8 minute is a combination of the re-mix and re-re-mix I believe
Quite loud and in-your-face. Not the worst offender, but the original albums are better - either the single disc remasters or those included in "Three Pieces".
Hi Guys! Thanks to @Limopard - who uploads the DR values - I bought this and got my Three Pieces Boxset today. It sounds great! I highly recommend this one. Bye Andrea
