In that case you may have the right one. I wouldn’t know for sure...

I have a Canadian 1995 A Decade Of with the red cover and it says on the CD: produced and remastered by Gary Katz.

Steely Dan CDs Different Masterings: A Decade of Steely Dan

Everything – and I do mean EVERYTHING – anyone wants to know about Decade can be found in the thread linked above. No need to go through it again here.

I think thats the one then I guess. since it does say manufactured and distributed in canada by Universal music. the cd itself has the MCA logo.
    crazy with all these versions.

playing it now. seems fine. Much more quiet on the top end than the 98 remasters I have. Not as edgy or detailed as the 98 version either. Have to crank it up a few notches more.

I wasn't trying to criticize you and should have worded my response better. I just wanted you and anyone else interested to be aware of that very detailed thread from a few years ago. It delves into all the iterations of Decade and the differences among them.

I have this too, and I believe it's an all-digital transfer to vinyl but I agree, it sounds gangbusters. I like it as a companion to the GH because it has Babylon Sisters and despite it being the last track on the record, it sounds spectacular.

we'll see. as the disc plays on it seems it is definitely lacking the dynamics of the 98 remasters- which I know a lot think are too bright. Doesn't seem to have the oomph...of the remasters either on the low end. will have to do some more comparisons.

I was referring to the "Expanded Version" CD so no problem with a digital transfer!

I wish Steely Dan would release Can't Buy a Thrill on SACD. If they have please direct me to a place to buy it.

Most didn’t, a few did. And one guy thought they’re the best.

I have to agree with others that A Decade Of Steely Dan is the best sounding comp.

I don't mind them. some feel a bit too bright. Seems most like the originals from what I have been reading. I think they are detailed and the low end is bit more pronounced from the "decade of" I just received ( all I have to compare to at the moment). Overall I haven't heard anything too bad from either one. Room/acoustics/ gear will be a factor too of course.

I'm just glad that none are that expensive so don't feel too guilty about getting various discs.

If you get a chance to compare Definitive Collection to other masterings, please let us know what you think. I haven’t heard it, but from what I’ve read you will hear a difference.

I'm not that fussy. I bought this to play in the car. I have all the albums up to Aja. The compilation sounds pretty good on my B&W speakers.

john lennonist There ONCE was a NOTE, PURE and EASY...

Again, I can not understand why "Greatest Hits" and "Decade" and "Gold" include some lesser tracks... but don't include the song "Aja" :realmad:

It would make a great closing track on all of these comps.

Ah... So there are minor differences between the originals and remasters.

But knowing the SHF forums, someone probably nitpicked the smallest details.
