...you never bother with choosing which version of a deluxe edition you want. You simply buy one of each!
You buy the exact same record again not once but twice! And you paid less the first time. This goes for DVDs, too.
I can relate to that one! What's ridiculous is that, as a "buy it when I'm into it" type of buyer, I will often pass on stuff I want when there is a half off sale (Criterion Films) or some other kind of deal, simply because I'm not in any immediate desire for it. Yet three months later, I will be into a certain director or artist, and I'll go out and pay full retail for the thing. But that's just how it is. An album I want could be $1, but if I'm not into it then, I'll wait. And of course without fail, I'll be yearning for it when it's back to $29.99. And I'll buy it without hesitation!
For me, it's simply because I forgot I had it in the first place. The real mania occurs when I forget for the third time! This happened a few times in my buying heyday because I tended to buy in blocks and out of habit and never got around to actually listening to the darn things. The latest example just took place a week ago. I saw Madonna's Celebration Collection for $7 and picked it up. A few days later, while looking for a different dvd I found a copy with the sticker price of $5. Oy.
Yes, that's really when it gets to the point of absurdity - when it becomes easier to just buy it again rather than try to locate it!
You buy duplicates, triplicates, quadruplicates, even batches of tens, because you LOVE music. Not in case of anything but love itself.
You see a home appraiser’s eyes get wide and silently mouth “Oh My” as you are showing him your attic crawl space filled with my catalogued “will eventually listen to again someday” library organized by genre/release date.
...you manage to get all the piles of CDs back on the shelves only by cheating and sticking Sun Ra, Miles, and King Crimson (155 CDs and sets) in a cupboard upstairs out of the way.
