...when half (most?) of the artists on your "favorites" playlist are deceased. Here's a partial list from mine...

Half of the Beatles. Most of the Allman Bros. Leon Russell. Jimi Hendrix. Janis Joplin. Elvis. Tom Petty. Joe Cocker. Prince. Glenn Campbell. Otis Redding. Aretha. Marvin Gaye. Half of Little Feat. James Brown. Paul Kantner (Jefferson Airplane). John Bonham. Keith Moon. Wilson Pickett. Johnny Cash. B.B. King. Terry Kath (Chicago). Ginger Baker (1/3 of Cream). Johnny Winter. Glen Frey (Eagles). Sonny Bono. Half of Sam & Dave. Frank Zappa. Stevie Ray Vaughan. Robert Palmer. Ric Ocasek (The Cars). Sharon Jones. David Bowie. Dick Dale. Walter Becker (half of Steely Dan). Maurice White (Earth Wind and Fire). George Jones. Almost half of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Toy and Tommy Caldwell (Marhhall Tucker Band). RIP.

On a more positive note, Keith Richards will outlive us all. After he plays at Eric Clapton's funeral.

Now I know exactly how my father felt...

When he heard news that the marquee stars, supporting and character actors of the classic Hollywood movies that he enjoyed got old and passed away, over the decades.

We played the new Neil Young & Crazy Horse album the other day where I was volunteering and the only ones who knew who Neil was were over 50.
Two thirds of the people that were with us that day had no idea who Neil Young was.

It's going to get worse. At some point someone, maybe here, will use the word holocaust. Lots of those stars born in the 30s and 40s. The hold outs will come in a wave. Oh god....

I'm 26 years younger than Iggy Pop, and I'm starting to think that he might outlive me.

Don't forget David Crosby. All things considered, that one's even more miraculous.

If you're a classical music fan, your favorite composers have been dead for a century or two.

  20. To be fair, Ric was pretty anonymous, outside the Cars he was mostly known for who he married.

I don't know why everyone expects young people to know our music and all the names of the guys in the bands we like. This stuff is ancient to them. When you were in high school or college did you listen to music that was 40 or 50 years old?
