You know you're getting old when half (most?) of the artists on your "favourites" playlist have died

I recognize so few names and even less song titles of the Top 40 now you would think I should be concerned . But I just don't care.

I have heard the 'that-happened-before-I -was -born' jive line a hundred times from younger people. It seems to be a b.s. excuse for not knowing of or being aware of anything that happened as little as 30 years ago.
Happened before you were born? Didn't almost everything?

In 1984, at 18, my 3 favorite artists were the Beatles, Elvis and Buddy Holly.
I guess, at 18, I was already old.

I wasn’t expecting Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, David Bowie, George Michael and Prince to be gone before my 29th birthday.

I have too many favourite songs (including a raft of one-hit wonders) to quickly and easily find out which of the artists are still alive and which aren't.

I look at it in a positive way... I'm old enough to have enjoyed many of the artists that passed away in real time when they first hit the scene and enjoyed their carrier from the beginning till the end......

Rubbish. I've been listening to records by dead people since I was 4 years-old, maybe younger. What difference does it make?

Yes, because we started to talk and this kid didn't know Sex Pistols was a band. Yet it was his t.shirt (a "Pretty Vacant" one).

I listen to mostly classical, jazz, and film music. Nearly all of them are dead!

The thread starter neglected to mention that Ben Orr, also of The Cars, is also dead.

In 1983, when I was 16, my favourites were Neil Young, Bob Dylan, The Eagles. Never cared about contemporary , young artists, except for the underground artists.

honestly, no excuse to not always fall back on old favorites. discovering new music by new artists is still a thrill. there was an article a few years ago that said most people stop listening to new music at 33. which was scary to me because that's around the age i was when the article came out. i'm 37 now and still find new music (and new to me, older music) every week.
