"I blame the fans. Because the fans have decided en masse — in other words, the masses have decided — that they should get free music, download fileshare… And you're not hurting KISS; we've been around a long time and we make a good living. You're killing the next Elvis and THE BEATLES and the next KISS and the next whoever, because you have to give your music away for free."

he also put some blame on the music industry...

"The music industry was asleep at the wheel," he said. "And [they] didn't have the balls to sue every fresh-faced, freckle-faced college kid who downloaded material. And so now we're left with hundreds of thousands of people without jobs. There's no industry."

His album "A**hole" was the most appropriately titled record in music history.

The Internet and advancements in home recording equipment have opened up avenues that the traditional music industry can't control. Real talent will shine through, regardless of how the music gets out to the public.

This dude hasn't got a clue, seriously.

New music seems to be doing very well to me, better than it's been at any time since the mid-1980s. Maybe better than ever. The artists may not be making a killing -- and that may or may not have to do with downloads and file-sharing; personally I suspect it's only of marginal importance compared to larger trends in technology and pop culture -- but music itself hasn't been harmed in the least. Not in the least. The best of it is a hell of a lot better than KISS, I'll tell you that.

P.S. Best I can tell the music industry fired up just about as much litigation as it would be reasonable to expect. And then some.

I've never illegally downloaded a Kiss record. I've never bought one either.
If anything could kill music it might be greed.

Outstanding, Gene! Up until now you've just been a rock star and an all-world d-bag, but rather than just leaving it at that, you've decided to become a Pre-Cog, too. So cool.

Funny thing is that if Gene had said "you're killing the next Gene Simmons", no one would have really cared....
