One Thousand Violins, Beautiful Shirt:
Pretenders- Time the Avenger
You were standing at the station
In your briefcase
Was your after shave and underwear
Kirsty MacColl- Treachery
He’s taking her home
Getting her out of her box
And putting her on
And dancing around in his socks
David Dundas/Jeans On:
Love the Y&T reference, and I raise you.........
"Black stockings and those sexy legs"
A better Y&T tune IMO, a classic....
The Who - Glow Girl
"A pair of black watch trews"
The first couple verses of "Vegetable Man" are essentially just Syd listing off what he's wearing:
In yellow shoes I get the blues
Though I walk the streets with my plastic feet
With blue velvet trousers, make me feel pink
There's a kind of stink about blue velvet trousers
In my paisley shirt I look a jerk
And my turquoise waistcoat is quite out of sight
But oh oh, my haircut looks so bad...
Vegetable man where are you?
So I've changed my gear, and I find my knees
And I cover them up with the latest cut
And my pants and socks all point in a box
They don't make long of my nylon socks
The watch, black watch
My watch with a black face
And a big pin, a little hole
And all the lot is what I got
It's what I wear, it's what you see
It must be me, it's what I am
Excellent. So much better than just posting a video and not saying what it's about.
I think even though "trews" this is the first pair of trousers we've had.
Richard Thompson - "1952 Vincent Black Lightning"
"Says Red Molly, to James, 'Well that's a fine motorbike.
A girl could feel special on any such like.'
Says James, to Red Molly, 'My hat's off to you.
It's a Vincent Black Lightning, 1952.' "
Al Stewart - "The Year Of The Cat"
"She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running
Like a watercolour in the rain"
Nic Jones - "Barrack Street"
"So dancing being over and to bed we did repare
And there I fell fast asleep the truth I will declare
Me darling with me thirty pounds gold watch and chain had fled
Left me here poor Jack alone, stark naked in bed
So I looked all around me and there's nothing I could spy
But a woman's shirt and apron all on the bed did lie
I wrung me hands and tore me hair crying oh what shall I do?
Fare thee well, sweet Windsor town, I'm sure I'll never see you
Well, everything being silent and the hour but twelve o'clock
I put on the shirt and apron and steered for Crowman's Wharf
The captain says 'Now Jack, I thought you were to Windsor bound
You might have got a better suit than that for thirty pound' "
"Stilettos are a no no"
The Steve Miller Band - 'Abracadabra'
I wanna reach out and grab ya
You make me hot, you make me sigh
You make me laugh, you make me cry
Keep me burning for your love
With the touch of a velvet glove
I feel the magic in your caress
I feel magic when I touch your dress
Silk and satin, leather and lace
Black panties with an angel's face
Jethro Tull - "Aqualung"
Biz Markie- Just a friend
I asked her her name
She said blah blah blah
She had 9/10 pants
And a very big bra
Not many trouser song lyrics out there
Beastie Boys- The New Style
I told her some rhymes
And she pulled up her skirt
Donald Fagen, "I.G Y.":
"There'll be spandex jackets, one for everyone"
Billy Ocean, "Caribbean Queen":
"She dashed by me in painted-on jeans"
The Beatles, "I Am the Walrus":
"... Boy you been a naughty girl you let your knickers down"
Simon & Garfunkel, "America":
"She said the man in the gabardine suit was a spy
I said 'Be careful, his bow tie is really a camera'"
Simon & Garfunkel, "Scarborough Fair":
"Tell her to make me a cambric shirt..."
I resent the implication that seniors are incapable of reading the thread intro.
