Better Things is a great song, but that album came out in 1982.

You're right, it shouldn't be on the list, but "Better Things" is on Give The People What They Want, which actually came out in 1981.
I also made that mistake since I thought it came out in 1980, so here's a new list:

    Stormy Sky
    Life Goes On
    Misfits
    National Health
    Pressure

Bonus: (I Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman

one from the road was my introduction to the kinks, so i have a soft spot for it. the deeper i dug the more i found i knew and liked until i finally got village green and was like "this is the pot of gold at the end of the tunnel" in a way

Rock'n'Roll Fantasy is one of THE greatest songs ever written and recorded. Absolute perfection and superb production. By far their best era (blows away the horribly recorded late 60's "classic" era). Give me 70's Kinks over 60's Kinks anytime. As much as I like the 60's songs the sound and the production was atrocious until Lola.

    1. Better Things is from 1981, and therefore ineligible to be #1 by a country mile.

    2. Sleepwalker
    3. Misfits
    3. Rock and Roll Fantasy
    4. Prince of the Punks
    5. Gallon of Gas

Couldn't add Catch Me Now I'm Falling. While it might have been a top-shelf number, the naked appropriation of the Jumpin' Jack Flash riff is absolutely unacceptable. There are a million riffs out there.

Mark Knopfler barely got away with it on Money for Nothing, but sorry to say Ray went over the line on that one, very unfortunately.

  20. Upon further reflection- primary list & honorable mentions...

    "Misfits"
    "In A Foreign Land"
    "Father Christmas"
    "Pressure"
    "National Health"
    "Artificial Light"
    "A Rock & Roll Fantasy"

    Honorable mention:
    "Attitude"
    "Live Life"
    "Juke Box Music"
    "Prince Of The Punks"

I don't know why I keep going into 1981. There's plenty of songs to pick from 77-80.
