I think it was because Studio Canal ended their association with Criterion in 2010. Some of their titles went back in print in North America distributed by Lions Gate. Still, they've been able to get back an odd title here and there, such as Le Samourai.
Apparently, the only way to get the free trial month of the new Criterion Channel is to sign up for a year as a Charter Subscriber. I don't see anything about a download feature (like Netflix) on the new site, however. It's one of the reasons why I stopped subscribing to Filmstruck. Maybe they'll incorporate it once they're up and running.
A bit off subject but does Barnes ship their Criterions to get by release day or is it usually late? I like them better because they treat packages better than the Amazon bubble mailer specials. Cannot wait fir the Bergman set!
I don’t know about B&N these days but I remember pre-ordering the Beatles In Mono CD box from them in 2009 and it did not ship until the release date. I did order the Bergman box from Amazon and it has shipped already with delivery for tomorrow. It specifically said when I ordered to arrive on release date.
The question will be...what condition. Eh I like to fish Barnes business anyway. They had best price first. Enjoy your purchase. Box set is literally only 5 or so movies short. Just awesome.
I see now that "being stuck" is part of Scorsese's (and Wharton's) point. And genesim's point about the Criterion's transfer is spot on. The film looks stunning - the production is very much alive.
My new Criterion BD came Friday from BN. Perfect condition. Looking forward to scoping out the transfer and the extras soon.
Bergman set arrived perfectly today from Amazon double boxed in its original form fitted shipping box from the distributer. This thing is a work of art in itself and much larger then it appears in the promos. Can’t wait to jump into this.
rewatching Criterion's "It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World" [Blu-Ray 1] General released film version tonight from Deluxe boxset
