This was the first that came to my mind. I still listen to it probably once a month or so... it's refreshingly bombastic and overblown all at the same time and I love it!!!

Mott The Hoople, Marionette. One of Ian Hunter's meta songs about the travails of being a rock star. This is the most histrionic of those songs.

I know most of you'all hate this song but it DOES fit the bill (and I still like it):
    Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird

I love it, and get well into it, but I have to leave it a long time between listens. "Stairway", even longer between listens. Like decades.

As for something a little more "recent" how about Muse's Knights of Cydonia? When I first heard this one on the radio I thought it would make a killer album intro; imagine my surprise to it being the last track on the album

The Moody Blues have some low hanging fruit for this topic. I've always liked this one, bombast and all (inspires some pretty pretentious fan videos too).

I see Bon Jovi has (dubiously) honorable mention in this thread. Maybe I'm the only person left who sorta admired those first few singles. Darn, I like it when songs have two choruses. But they lost all cred with me when Richie Sambora did a rock show on the radio over here playing his favourite rock songs and played a highly edited version of Stairway. Gone were all the good bits, including the guitar solo. Huh!?!?!?

Makes total sense. A recording can be bloated and still be appreciated. Same with pretentious and over-produced.

If it can be appreciated, then you can have a favourite amongst similar recordings, can’t you?

Chris DeVoe RIP Vickie Mapes Williams (aka Equipoise)

From the Wikipedia article on the album, Clive Davis rejected the demo, saying:

Do you know how to write a song? Do you know anything about writing? If you're going to write for records, it goes like this: A, B, C, B, C, C. I don't know what you're doing. You're doing A, D, F, G, B, D, C. You don't know how to write a song.... Have you ever listened to pop music? Have you ever heard any rock-and-roll music.... You should go downstairs when you leave here...and buy some rock-and-roll records!

This one's easy:. Frankenstein by Edgar Winter.

That's just a ridiculous song, almost a parody of 70s rock decadence. But it's so, so great. One of my favorite trax ever.

    Roger Daltrey -- It's a Hard Life

This one is so florid and overwrought that it made Roger all glowy. A guilty pleasure. I always admired his willingness to do an album of music hall tunes when he was at peak rock god status.

Frankenstein just reminded me of Hocus Pocus by Focus (it has yodeling, a "Popeye" bridge and even a flute solo; not sure how much over the top you can get...)
