    Yes, "Heart of the Sunrise"

Epic, pretentious AND overblown. Basically the kind of longer than three minutes song Dave Marsh would despise :) And I love it.

Folks, the words bloated, pretentious, and over-produced are not exactly words of praise. Let me ask you, would you want to be called bloated and pretentious?

In pop/rock music sometimes too much can be a good thing. Sometimes I want to hear the big pretentious overblown sound of excessive excess. It's fun.

I've been accused to my face of being a "pretentious arty wanker". Proudly guilty on all counts.

Tower by Angel on their eponymous first album. Lord of the Rings type imagery. Arguably their best song.
Stranglehold by Ted Nugent. Love how it builds up, Derek St. Holmes vocals and Ted's guitar theatrics. Arguably his best song.

    I will play along...

1.Side 3 of Hendrix EL...Jimi took what he began on "The Third Stone From The Sun" & pushed it to its very limits & in the process crafted a brilliant sprawling mess of a psychedelic magnum opus & proved that his intergalactic spirituality made him the 60s premier "psychedelic" avatar

2.Ten Years After / I Can't Keep From Crying Sometimes (1973)...taken from their Recorded Live record & it is wonderful in all its bloated & conceited over the top glory

3.Stones / Midnight Rambler (1969)...taken from the bootleg Live'r Than You'll Ever Be & the definitive version of this rock as theater gem

4.Miles Davis...his fusion years were majestic, brilliant & overblown but boy did it sound good!

5.Deep Purple / Space Truckin (1973)...culled from Made In Japan Jon Lord crafted his finest moment on vinyl during this side long masterpiece, THIS was how Deep Purple closed out their 1972 shows

Julian Cope (for those that don't know, he was the mad genius from Liverpool who fronted the legendary band The Teardrop Explodes) once addressed why some of his songs are so long. Some of Cope's songs stretch on forever...six minutes of the same thing. His response was simple. He said:

"If its good for two minutes it will be good for six minutes."

I still laugh at that quote. And I still don't know if he's right. Hell, I hate "Hey Jude" because of its endless "nah, nah, nahs;" but then I love the long 12" version of "Tainted Love" more than the short single version.

Geddy just laughs. "I'll see your bloated, bombastic, and pretentious, fellas, and raise you with turgid and over-wrought._

And then the guys in Sleep just laugh at every band in this thread and say, "amateurs."

(I should say that, except for Stairway, I like every song I've mocked in these posts. :D )

When I think of Bombastic and Overblown, The Darkness as a Band itself comes to mind(or at least their first Album that I bought(CD), as never returned to check out any of their other Albums, as I could not even listen to the Lead Singer without laughing). Even Queen must have been saying, "Wow, and we thought we were Bombastic & Overblown"-haha

Love the song, but don't really see what's bombastic about it at all. It's a jam with murky vocals.
