1973 was a huge music year in my life. I was a junior and senior at UT-Austin over the year, and did quite a few reviews for the student newspaper in the first half of the year. Austin had a great music scene with great venues and radio stations at the time. I think part of what would become a general preference toward what would eventually be called Americana was getting shaped at during that year.

Here's a long list favorite albums from 1973 that I've still been listening to a lot over the past few years.

Arlo Guthrie - The Last of the Brooklyn Cowboys
Bob Marley - Catch a Fire; Burnin'

Bruce Springsteen - The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle

Dr. John - In the Right Place
    Eagles - Desperado
Elton John - Don't Shoot Me; Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

    John Cale - Paris 1919
    John Lennon - Mind Games
    John Martyn - Solid Air
    John Prine - Sweet Revenge
Leo Kottke - My Feet are Smiling

    Burnin' - The Wailers.

Bob Marley is still very much a part of 'the group' on this album. It's fantastic and probably, for me at least, it's his best album. Essential listening for any reggae fans out there.
