Recorded in July 1973. It would have been released then except for a dispute between producer, Jack Clement, and the label. There’s nothing in the original post restricting choices to the eventual year of release.

Well, a pedant might argue that it cannot be an "Album of 1973" if the album did not exist then.
As far as I'm aware I don't think its release was delayed, or that Cowboy Jack was involved - I think you might mean the aborted 7 Comes 11 album.

You’re right about the delayed album, my mix-up. However, the album was still recorded in 1973 which makes it representative of where Townes was at in 1973, not 1977 unless he was a time-traveller. I take the view that makes it an album of 1973. I also regard the matter as of such little importance that it is not worth arguing about. If you feel by exercising your admitted penchant for pedantry you have somehow scored a point then I am happy for you and I’ll leave you to go and pick faults in others’ posts.

I've been listing archival releases in the recording year if possible (that is, if it's not an archival release with recordings from different years). Ideally that seems a better fit to me than putting them in the release year.

You know, I always used to think of 1973 as "the year the 70s got boring (until 76-77 or so)", but looking at a list of albums released that year... there was a LOT of good stuff!

    a few particular faves:

    Gram Parsons - GP
Iggy & the Stooges - Raw Power
    Lou Reed - Berlin
    Bowie - Aladdin Sane
    New York Dolls - s/t
Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On
    Stones - Goats Head Soup
    Springsteen - Wild, Innocent, etc.
Neil Young - Time Fades Away
    Herbie Hancock - Head Hunters
Fripp & Eno - No Pussyfooting
    Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Loudon Wainwright III - Attempted Mustache

and that's a short list. There were a bunch more that made me say, "Hey, that's a good one!"
