I entered all the albums listed, and their respective mentions, in a Google Sheet to get an overview of the most popular albums from 1995, according to this forum.

plenty of good stuff from 95, but the best album from that year is Pure Phase by Spiritualized

Definitely, 'Pure Phase' is One of the Best, although I rank 'The Bends' as the Best Album from 1995 but YMMV.

Here's my list of stuff I enjoyed from 1995. I might die trying to order it, so this is it for now. I find it interesting with these to look back and see which albums I enjoyed at the time, and which I discovered further down the line. In some cases, the ones later discovered have aged better then those I bought at the time. First off, a few I haven't seen listed yet :

Red House Painters - Ocean Beach
    Low - Long Division
    Bluetile Lounge - Lowercase
Mojave 3 - Ask Me Tomorrow
    Sianspheric - Somnium
    Prolapse - Backsaturday
    Morrissey - Southpaw Grammar
    Buffalo Tom - Sleepy Eyed

Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
Mercury Rev - See You On the Other Side
Shack - Waterpistol ('91 album, finally released in '95)
    Fugazi - Red Medicine
    Elliott Smith - Elliott Smith
    Sonic Youth - Washing Machine
    Pavement - Wowee Zowee
Guided By Voices - Alien Lanes
The Verve - A Northern Soul
    Sparklehorse - Vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot
    Gene - Olympian
    Del Amitri - Twisted
    Pulp - Different Class
    Slowdive - Pygmalion
Radiohead - The Bends (shout out to the great era b-sides too)
    Spiritualized - Pure Phase
    Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters
    Yo La Tengo - Electr-O-Pura
McAlmont and Butler - The Sound Of
    Sleeper - Smart
    Teenage Fanclub - Grand Prix
    Elastica - Elastica
The Flaming Lips - Clouds Taste Metallic
    Blur - The Great Escape
    Supergrass - I Should Coco
Everclear - Sparkle and Fade (a kind of guilty pleasure - for nostalgic reasons mainly!)
Ben Folds Five - Ben Folds Five (see above)

I see Cocteau Twins - Milk and Kisses on a few lists. Sorry to be 'that guy' but I consider this a 1996 album. I think a promo of it went out in '95 but for all intents and purposes it was officially released in '96.

Kudos on the nod to The Verlaines...but Bird Dog came out in 1987. Although it was still a great album in 1995!

Weird. Thought I’d have a ton more (I was working at a record store in Seattle then), but it turns out 94 and 96 may have been better years for music I liked.

But, these are some great albums, some of my faves of all time in fact.

Massive Attack V Mad Professor - No Protection

Guided by Voices - Alien Lanes

    Elliott Smith - st

    Team Dresch - Personal Best

Money Mark – ‘Mark’s Keyboard Repair’

    Dirty Three - st

Bryndle. Brilliant! Four great singers who are even better writers. Should have been a massive hit!

Time is a left-field choice too. Generally unloved even by the people who made it.

I always thought it was a great record. Bekka Bramlett is excellent.

With the star power on the BRYNDLE album, it really did surprise me that some major label didn't pick it up and give it a proper release! Guess it was just a sign of the times....they were the antithesis of what was going on in '95!
(I didn't think the follow-up, "House of Silence", was nearly as strong!).
"Time" is a funny creature....I don't think it's aged particularly well. In fact, I think the only reason it charted as high as it did for me was because it was a Fleetwood Mac record, and because '95 was a relatively weak year in my books!

I picked up House Of Silence this year and it definitely lacks something. Not enough Andrew Gold maybe.

And somehow I left out James McMurtry's Where'd You Hide the Body, an album that probably belongs at #3 or #4 on my list and contains "Levelland", which might make my list of top 20 all time songs on any given day.

That is an amazing record! :righton:

Robert Earl Keen's cover of Levelland ( from Picnic, 1997) is a lovely rendition of the song. Well worth a listen if you don't know it.
