We made it to 1999. This will be the last of these posts unless some overwhelming majority want me to continue. It's been a blast. Thanks to everyone who replied to the threads! As usual, anything recorded between Jan 1 and Dec 31 1999 is eligible. Choose as many or as few as you wish. Have fun! My favorite albums from 1999 in alphabetical order by artist: Beck - Midnight Vultures Counting Crows - This Desert Life The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin Guided By Voices - Do The Collapse Hefner - The Fidelity Wars Le Tigre - Le Tigre Moby - Play Pavement - Terror Twilight John Prine - In Spite Of Ourselves Matthew Sweet - In Reverse Richard Thompson - Mock Tudor Wilco - Summerteeth XTC - Apple Venus Volume 1
I always remember 1999 as being a strong year. Perhaps it was the singles but couldn't find too many absolute classic albums. I'd be in favour of going on one more year to 2000 a very, very strong year for albums. The Beta Band The Beta Band (they weren't too happy with the album but it was pretty darn good) Supergrass Supergrass {Mary is a great song} Magic Hour Cast (this is probably the last good album they did) Pickled Eggs and Sherbet All seeing i (I enjoyed this a lot at the time) Peasants, Pigs & Astronauts Kula Shaker (Another album I enjoyed a lot at the time but perhaps I wouldn't go back to)

At the time, I thought 1999 was a terrible year for music. Mainly on account of the blandness that reigned in British rock and pop. Also, rock was beginning to be displaced by dance and r&b as the music of the youth here, a development which I was not too fond of. Looking back though, there was some great stuff all around like: - SFA: Guerilla - Blur: 13 - NIN: The Fragile (I actually think this album is a noble failure. But a very noble one). - The Roots: Things Fall Apart - Beck: Midnite Vultures - Artist Formerly Known As Prince: Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (Hmmm. Most of this album is actually forgettable. There are 4 or 5 great songs though. And a little bit of vintage Prin... erm, AFKAP is more than enough)

The sheer volume & diversity in artists that are being presented on these posts begs taht you to continue if not only to show the forum's multitued of stuck in the 60's naysayers that they need to get listening to the great sounds that are still around. Something for everybody willing enough to do a bit of digging.
Yes, I think there's a case to made to continue into the 2000s. It's always interesting to see what albums people like from more recent years, even if some selections are from long-established acts. There has been a good mix here.
