Thanks, so no mastering credit? Usually when I see Gus's name there is also a separate mastering engineer credit.

Nope, I just opened it up to check the book and under the disc itself, only credit on the rear art.

Found it in another thread: Sam Cooke Best of SACD - worth picking up?

    It was George Marino:

I pretty much feel the same way. I have 56 discs on Analogue Production 4 Gold CD releases, 4 standard CD releases and the balance of 48 titles their SACD releases. I've not been disappointed in any.

Really enjoying this now, my very first time hearing this album as well. Thanks for the recommendation!

How about Ellington Masterpieces AP SACD, guys? I understand that it was mastered by Ryan Smith, but I don't think I have heard his mastering before.

Also, how about the Ellington Indigos CD? (I know the topic is SACD, I will ask a Gort to edit the topic.)

My opinion when we speak sound quality by mastering work and SACD media is:
    some are really good
    some are good
some are not so good (particularly those Marino 20/48 pcm transfers to DSD/SACD, still a mystery to me why it was done).

I played one of those *really good* yesterday; Steve Hoffman mastered "Pendulum" by Creedence. Steve really nailed this one! :)

A few weeks back a forum member here in Norway compared Rickie Lee Jones "It's like this" by Lp, CD, SACD (Analogue Production) to his tape copy played back at a Studer R2R tape deck in his living room. The tape copy was far superior to all other version, even his wife was amazed how much better the drums sounded on the tape.
I have this SACD, without comparing it to other version I instantly knew that this SACD didn't represent the master tape that good, the first time I played it.

Yeah, listened to Blow By Blow for the first time today and really enjoyed it. I was surprised by how funky it is!

It is a great album! I have had the Mobile Fidelity gold Cd for a long time. It sounds good enough to me that I haven't felt the need to get the AP SACD.

Do you (0r anyone else) know how many (and which) songs were re-recorded for Nat King Cole Story?

Based on the splendid discography included in the fantastic Analogue Productions SACD version of The Nat King Cole Story these are the "new" recordings and they are magnificent indeed. All the following songs were re-recorded in 1961 for the Nat King Cole Story:

    Its Only A Paper Moon
    Sweet Lorraine
(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66
    Straighten Up And Fly Right
(I Love You) For Sentimental Reasons
    Answer Me My Love
    Darling Je Vous Aime Beaucoup
    Smile
    Pretend
    The Sand And The Sea
    A Blossom Fell
    Nature Boy
    Too Young
    Somewhere Along The Way
    Unforgettable
    Mona Lisa
The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas To You)
    I Am In Love
    Lush Life
    Walking My Baby Back Home
    Ballerina
    Orange Colored Sky
To the Ends Of The Earth
    Blue Gardenia
    Night Lights
    Calypso Blues

All the other songs were either already in stereo I believe or bonus songs recorded after this double album was issued such as Ramblin' Rose or Those Hazy, Lazy, Crazy Days of Summer. I cannot recommend this SACD highly enough with Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray's fantastic mastering. One of the most splendid sounding CD's I have ever heard in my entire life and this baby really turned me on to our host, Mr. Hoffman, as one of the greatest remastering engineers in the world.

I notice the Cowboy Junkies SACD hasn't been mentioned yet.

I see they are releasing 3 more classical SACDs this coming week! I really want to hear the Sibelius disc, but I probably won't be able to resist and will order all three!

Maybe it is my prejudice but I do not like the mastering style of the classical titles from AP.

Wow what don't you like about them? I have about 30 of them and they are some of the best discs I have ever heard! I have never been disappointed when buying one. I find them to be spacious, detailed, and warm sounding.
