Hip is in the ear of the behearer.

    Stan Getz
    Ben Webster

Personally I think Stan Getz and Ben Webster are about as hip as you can get. But my boss whose tastes run more to Jay Z, Pit Bull, and Bruce Springsteen mocks me when he hears them playing in my office.

I once walked into his office and he was listening to Jay Z, he said,”I bet you don’t even know who this is.” My boss is obviously super-cool.

I thought to myself, that’s right because I don’t reside on the planet earth with the rest of humanity.

Basically all classic art/prog rock of 1970s - bands like Yes, ELP, VDGG, Magma, Genesis, The Moody Blues, etc.

In my opinion I don't think she is so political. I think there was a longstanding assumption by the general public that she was conservative or republican - and also criticism on her not speaking out about women's issues and yet having a feminist viewpoint when it came to her uncomfortable with how some articles were portraying her. Now that being said . . . . my lack of affinity just comes from not having a relatable personality to me or one that I really connect with - and also her playing the victim while, in my opinion, orchestrating some things behind the scenes that got her into trouble or bad press later on. I just feel like she needs to be more honest about potential general public moral shakiness for some general public likability but also I guess I can understand how some things may be more difficult for her because of her large young fanbase.

I think Dennis is probably the only Beach Boy who was 'cool.' And I love the Beach Boys.

I'm also a massive Genesis fan. Were they cool? I guess it varied by person and era. I think Steve Hackett is pretty bad-ass.

It remains these four guys...whoever they are... Just as un-hip today as they were here in the Winter of 1973-1974... :tiphat:

Not that it matters. Great songs are great songs. "Hip" can come and go!

Yeah. I liked her until she got political. Don't get me wrong. She's no Barbra or Joan Baez, but there was enough there to put me off. It's something I liked about The Who. Townsend said that if you want to get political, put it in the music. And we got "Won't get fooled again". :)

Genesis is my all time favorite band. If this thread had been started in the 70's, I'd have included it in this thread. But they became cool.

Ha ! I thought at first that Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters were one of those ' bands' featured in those crappy 60's beach movies cause the name rang a bell. I wasn't too far off!
