Thanks again. I think around that time I didn't pay enough attention to them or The Subways or The Stills or Bloc Party and the blame for this lies firmly with Editors!
It was a good era for this stuff! It's when I was first paying attention to music. I only noticed bits of it really given that I was so young, but later I've grown to really like Franz Ferdinand's debut a lot as well, and different bits by lots of other bands, including Editors, and later White Lies, who are probably really the last band to break in that vein. Luckily, post-punk revival (as I guess it's all called) hasn't really died, it's just out of the limelight right now, so there's still lots out there that I get to check out while it's fresh.
What I did was buy compilation albums regularly in HMV. Some really good discoveries from them. And 6 Music to stay in touch. I miss John Peel so much but thankfully the internet and media makes exposure to different music so much greater. One discovery from this era was Hope Of The States - have you heard of them?
Has anyone listed 'Umbassa and the Dragon' or 'For Madmen Only' yet? You have to admit those are very interesting if not sweet recordings
Love all the Beatles' B-sides, but I didn't see this one on here yet: B-side of 'Got To Get You Into My Life'
The Bee Gees, "Kilburn Towers"...I discovered this on the b-side of "I Started A Joke" back in the 90s and it's grown on me to the point where it's possibly my favorite Bee Gees song. A masterpiece of pastoral beauty.
Arthur Alexander - Soldier of Love Country soul singer from Alabama. "Soldier of Love" was the B-side to "Where Have You Been (All My Life)", released on Dot Records in 1962. "Baby lay down your arms Soldier of love Baby lay down your arms"
