The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion followed closely by Shake Your Moneymaker and Amorica. I also like Warpaint and Before The Frost... ...Until The Freeze.

I love the first two very much. The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion is their masterpiece. I'd put Shake Your Money Maker right behind that.

Of the rest, my favorite is Before the Frost...

Here's a vote for "By Your Side." Absolutely kickin'.

First two albums are must-haves; everything else seems a bit spotty to me after that, although there are enough gems on each of them to make them a good listen. Also gonna vote for “By Your Side.” That was a fun tour, and probably the last time they took the stage before morphing into a quasi-jam band. The last time I saw them (at a festival in ‘13), there was more noodling and jamming than actual melodies and grooves.

    Amorica is tops for me.

Everything that made them unique is on that album.

Then Southern Harmony, 3 Snakes and Band.

HUGE Crowes fan here...my favs (from their classic era, and by "classic" I mean: people were still paying attention to them and their new music still got played on the radio) in order are:

    1) The Southern Harmony & Musical Companion
    2) Shake Your Moneymaker (as played-out as it is, it's still a great album, and a helluva debut!)
    3) Amorica
    4) 3 Snakes (a big drop off from the previous three IMHO)
    5) Lions
    6) By Your Side (They screwed up this album so badly by leaving out a couple of really strong tracks ["It Must Be Over" and "Peace Anyway"] and only releasing them as additional tracks on import CD singles)

The original triple LP release of this album has been my favourite since its release.

I don't have any other Black Crowes albums.
    Probably should have by now?
So will watch this with interest.

"Shake Your Money Maker" will always be my favorite because of
"She Talks to Angels" but it is an amazing debate album in total IMHO.

    Amorica is my favourite.
I lost interest after not liking anything on "By Your Side" and hardly anything on "Lions", so I haven't heard them all.

    Southern Harmony

Croweology (a double disc package of their best songs..all done acoustically!)

    Shake Your Money....

    Amorica

Also dig: Lions, Warpaint, Three Snakes

By Your Side is OK...Sounds refreshing on first listen or so but I find most of the songs to be pretty shallow on repeated listenings trying to recapture the tight song structure of the debut.

Amorica is, in a word, staggering. It has such (emotional) highs and lows, revs like a sportscar sometimes, moans like a blues cat others. I love Southern Harmony, too, and the debut, but if I had to pick one, it’s Amorica.

My list has changed over the years, but here's how I rank them now, almost two decades later:
    1. Southern Harmony
    2. By Your Side (especially if you add the excellent b-sides from those sessions)
    3. Amorica
    4. Money Maker
    5. Lions
    6. Three Snakes
    7. A hypothetical Rich and Chris Wibbling Rivalry album
    8. Warpaint/After The Flood (yawn)

    Shake Your Money Maker.

I love Stare It Cold - can't beat a song that speeds up at the end with the singer gabbling.

The first album. Lions close behind. That album was unfairly panned in my opinion.
