That's a gooder. All right. All right. Hey! Settle down over there! The Charlie Pride gag makes me a bit uncomfortable.
Not a parody per se, but a hilarious legendary performance: The "Good Ole" Blues Brothers "Boys" - Theme from Rawhide.
Thanks for posting. Having no clue about the identity of the artist, I was intrigued by the title. Imagine my surprise at immediately recognizing the acoustic guitarist, Trey Hensley, my wife's cousin. My initial impression was that this was authentic country music because each musician in that band is talented in bluegrass and country, but the lyric does take the "daddy theme" into a hilarious if unconventional parody. Besides talent, there's definitely some wit in that song.
Found Jethro Burns' S/T album on Flying Fish (with Vassar Clements) on a Near Mint vinyl in Portland, OR (sorry, Dana, it was at Jackpot, but I got plenty at Music Millennium, too, last week). That is one phenomenal record that is playing while I work this morning.
“It’s Hard To Kiss The Lips At Night That Chew Your Ass Out All Day” - The Notorious Cherry Bombs (Rodney Crowell, Vince Gill and others)
I really enjoyed the Saturday Night Live skit from about 20 years ago that was a parody of a tv commercial for a Queens of Country Music collection. While it opened with a blah parody of Lynn Anderson doing "Rose Garden", it moved on to a fun copy of Jeannie C. Riley sassing through "Harper Valley PTA" and a dead-on non-comic take of Donna Fargo's stage presence doing "Happiest Girl in the Whole USA" it then got sensational with bits from bogus country stars and clips of their nonexistent hits, my favorite being the sheer lunacy of "Sweet Corn Memories". I don't think anyone has this segment on youtube, at least I couldn't find it.
