I'm sure that was an honest mistake, my wife does that all the time. But Yasujiro-san writes English a LOT better than the majority of Japanese people living in Japan. The reason why Japanese people have difficulty with R and L is those sounds as pronounced in English do not exist in the Japanese language; what is written in roman letters as "R" is actually pronounced somewhere between a D, L or R sound in Japanese, and they do not easily hear the distinction. For example, my wife's name is Mariko; it's actually pronounced something like "mah-di-ko" (no emphasis on any syllable). My sisters-in-law are Reiko and Ruriko, pronounced something like "lay'ee-ko" and "lu-dee-ko."
it's arguably her best, however, so all is not lost. while she has several live DVDs, her only live albums have been duets, one with Chick Corea (recommended), one with harpist Edmar Castaneda and two with vocalist/pianist Akiko Yano (i suggest you sample Ms. Yano's voice before a blind buy). Probably Shonen Knife I also love Puffy, Versailles, Judy and Mary/Yuki, Fire Bomber, Petty Booka and many many more. My current #1 is Hatsune Miku, but she's not a band or even a human. Most of the music I've listened to over the past year is Japanese but I've barely scratched the surface.
Nice thread idea, some great bands mentioned, many I haven't heard before. There's an explosion of good Japanese psych bands now, and 2018 saw some very good albums too with a growing international recognition, such as Kikagaku Moyo and their latest Masana Temples, Minami Deutsch With Dim Light, the Qujaku debut, and many more. Another big favorite this year is the latest from Eiko Ishibashi, The Dream My Bones Dream, listen to it all the time, often over and over, great record, beautiful production by Jim O'Rourke...
88Kasyo Junrei I wouldn't be the one to confirm and verify, but I'm presuming that's not a woman. Good bassist, though.
Acid Mothers Temple To be completely honest also the only one I really know. I saw them live a couple of months ago and it was one of the best concerts I ever saw. Totally out of this world.
The Plastics. I only know this one song from them, but I've always liked it. Saw them on SCTV in 1982. Available on SCTV: Volume 2 (5 DVD set).
already mentioned, boris, guitar wolf, teengenerate, i didn't see boredoms they're worth checking out'
I love Yellow Magic Orchestra, the members solo projects, and their work with J-pop artists during the 1970’s and 1980’s. I actually have their first 2 albums.
