Afrirampo were fantastic when they were together. Their live shows were amazing. And, oh my goodness, Bleach 03 (from Okinawa) were TREMENDOUS. Absolute powerhouses. I lamented when they broke up.
Good friends of mine and I have zillions of hours of footage of them from about 2003 - 2009. So much fun. The tour where they opened for Fantomas (2004?) was a blast. Man, time flies.
Seen him three times. Twice during the amazing SurroundSense tour (or whatever it was called) and once opening for Rovo in Hibiya Park in Tokyo. Great stuff. Wonderful show.
Love this film and Linda!Linda! Linda! I have that expensive DVD box set of Shunji films. AALCC was recently released on blu-ray. Hoping for his other films too.
I'm completely infatuated with Rovo. Was introduced to them in very early 2000s (2002?) when Sean Lennon got me into one of their shows at the now (long) defunct Tonic in NYC. Fun night.
This thread is bringing back some memories. Damn the late 90s and early 2000s were an awesome time for NYC and Japan.
I love so many of the bands mentioned already. But it all starts and ends with Ryuichi Sakamoto for me. Here's one fave:
I've got about 5 tied for 1st. Acid Mothers Temple, Boris, Masayuki Takayanagi New Direction Unit, Melt Banana, Polysics.
Sadistic Mika Band. But Kikagaku Moyo coming up fast. Saw KM play here in a Melbourne about a week before the shutdowns. Might be the last live band I see for some time.
