2 days ago I picked up 75 jazz 78's in VG+ condition. Most were from the 30's.
Could not believe my eyes when I was looking through and seeing the likes of:
Art Tatum; Duke Ellington; Louis Armstrong; Ella Fitzgerald; Benny Goodman; Boswell Sisters and others. To be able to get U.K and U.S pressings here in Australia is a treat for me.
The music is so beautiful and perfect. Best $120 I have ever spent.

Well, in 1935 you could do worse than Django & Stéphane:

This 1935 recording is cool, in all respects, all year long. Arranged by Fletcher Henderson, here's Benny Goodman and His Orchestra with "Jingle Bells":

On compilations of Swing Era holiday music, this tends to be forgotten because Glenn Miller and His Orchestra had a Top 10 hit with a vocal arrangement in 1941, and that version is used far more often.

Always a smile at the jollity and awe at the execution. Radio broadcast, 1935.

The A-side of the "Jingle Bells" Benny Goodman 78 was another early swing Christmas recording from 1935: "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town" by Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra.

The song was introduced in 1934, but this is the oldest reasonably well-known version. This is much more often collected on CD than the Goodman track.

One of the most important records in country & western music history was recorded in 1935 -- the first major C&W hit by a female solo artist, "I Wanna Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart" by Patsy Montana.
