As usual, you don't have to do a big list all at once. I just post stuff as I listen to it.

Albums, EPs, singles--whatever you want. Just limit it to stuff released, recorded, written/premiered (in the case of classical, for example) in 1952.

    Here's a good one...

If I am not mistaken I think Sinatra's excellent Birth of the Blues also came out in '52. It is not a year I think of that often in terms of music. Recently I saw The Quiet Man, a very good movie, from this year. Was the early 50's more "1940's"-ish in the same way some people think that "the 60's" didn't start until JFK assassination/Beatlemania? Rock and roll did not explode until 1955/56 as we all know... But culturally, the early 50's and the late 50's seem to have a few quantum leaps between them.

That's true, 1952 isn't a year I commonly think of for standout songs...I'm not familiar at all with the pop music of the era, and the blues and R&B songs of note, sometimes I'm surprised that they came out that year. I was born in 1956 myself and I do love a lot of 50s music. I'm sure '52 had a lot of hidden gems!

I had always thought Parker's debut records came out in 1953. Even then you could sort of sense the direction he would take through the 60's, bringing the blues into suave territory making it very R&B/soul/slick. Criminally underrated singer, one of the very best of the genre.

1952 Hudson Hornet with race spec engine, music to my ears, did anyone back in the day write a song about how they dominated stock car racing?
