As usual, you don't have to do a big list all at once. I just post stuff as I listen to it.

Albums, EPs, singles--whatever you want. Just limit it to stuff released, recorded, written/premiered (in the case of classical, for example) in 1953.

Not a lot for me in 1953.

Jazz did not get interesting for me until the late 50's. And rock did not get interesting for me until 1969 (with a few earlier exceptions).

There were a some exceptional classical works, though, although it was even a slow year for that.

The first 2 listed, are amazing pieces, the latter 3, are good, but not completely up my alley.

Elliott Carter - String Quartet no. 1
Karl Amedeus Hartmann - Concerto for piano, winds, and percussion

Bohuslav Martinu - Concerto for violin, piano and orchestra
Andrew Imbrie - Sting Quartet no. 2
Karel Husa - String quartet no. 2

"The Mess Around" for sure but Hank Sr's "Your Cheatin Heart" was a moment.

Agree. I was actually tempted to post that one, but in the end decided on Ray.

I had to look this song up to verify it was 1953...I thought it was from '54. Ruth Brown "Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean"

as usual, plenty of great music in Jazz, R&B, Blues, and Gospel. Rock 'n Roll was just getting started, in fact, `53 was a pretty exciting year from a musicological standpoint - roots-forms were organically coalescing to create the set of templates for the future of popular music. It was the year in which Doo Wop and R&B merged on the Herald label’s first hit, “Shake a Hand” by Faye Adams.

`53 was also the year Junior Parker introduced the future Elvis classic, “Mystery Train.”

Two more important puzzle pieces appeared, demonstrating textbook examples of divergent forms merging into Rock ‘n’ Roll ─ direct off-shoots of R&B and rockabilly, “Hound Dog” and “Rock Around the Clock” burst the floodgates wide open.
