Can be a single, album, a later compilation focusing on the year . . . whatever.

Doesn't have to be a list, though of course you can post a list if you want. You can also just post one title at a time as you think of it/run across it (which is what I do in these threads).

(I'm going to eventually be doing one of these for every year from 1920 to 1963 (we already have threads for every year from 1964), and then for wider periods prior (decades, etc.) Of course, anyone else is free to start the others before I get to them, but just let me know if you do so we can avoid duplicates.)

Crazy that I don't know what precise year anything before the Beatles came out. If I did I'd probably pick something by Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis,Carl Perkins,Dion or Hanks Williams . I may research and come back. Cool thread where I may take in musical suggestions.

MY all time favorite song came out that year; "Susie Darlin'" by Robin Luke. Honorable mentions; "Summertime Blues" by Eddie Cochran, "Topsy Part 2" by Cozy Cole, "Where or When" by Dion/Belmonts.....This was actually the best year of the 50's for Rock, Despite the draft of Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis's scandalous marriage, Little Richard's sudden shame of being a Rocker & Alan Freed's continued persecution, culminating in the payola scandal. The anti-Rock efforts being brought to the table that year were the most hysterically funny garbage. like Mitch Miller's "sold out to the pre-shave crowd" speech to the Disc Jockey convention. Several Rock history books refer to it.

john54: Great choice of The Kirby Stone Four. The Columbia Lp of the same name (which I have) was an early stereo album, and it was used by many Hi Fi stores to show off their stereo systems. "Baubles, Bangles and Beads" is just FANTASTIC sounding in stereo.

Send Me Some Lovin' and Directly From My Heart To You are both absolute knock outs ... Zappa with Sugarcane Harris do a great cover of the second

Tony Bennett's IN PERSON [with] Count Basie and his Orchestra was *recorded* in November of 1958.

Hey, I like the early rock stuff, but it doesn't rise to my "Favorite" categorization level.

Had to listen to that. Except for the voice, if I heard it without knowing it was Muddy Waters, I might have taken it for a Jimmy Reed record.
