Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal which would've been a whole lot better without that love interest angle, still mostly a fun film

Joe Versus the Volcano. Not only do you get Hanks with a killer mullet, you get the running gag of the luggage, Meg Ryan in 3 roles, and a brain cloud.

Of that list, the Green Mile and the Toy Story series.

You can add to those for me:-

    Charlie Wilson's War
    Saving Mr Banks
A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood
    Bridge of Spies
    Saving Private Ryan

First time I went to the movies on my own was to watch "Splash", so it had to be there.
And "Forrest Gump" because he taught Elvis how to move the right way.

I voted for That Thing you Do and Apollo 13 both favorites of mine, but i could have easily added Forest Gump and a League of their own but since it only let me vote for 2....

Went with Apollo 13 and Volunteers, I've got a soft spot for this comedy he did with John Candy. Years ago I would have went with Forrest Gump but I've reevaluated it and found it manipulative

That Thing You Do, The Money Pit, Castaway. Volunteers is just silly fun with John Candy added to the mix.

I picked Forrest Gump because I wrote a college paper about the film; read the book & watched the film. Also like Cast Away, always liked that title because one can read it several different ways.

    The Green Mile.......

Oddly if you asked me who my favorite actors are, Hanks wouldn't even get a mention, but in reality he's in a lot of good movies.
My 2 choices aren't written in stone.....

My votes went to Big and Forrest Gump, but two other Hanks films I really liked were The Polar Express and Larry Crowne. I really want to see the Mr. Rogers film.

How is Cast Away not one of the main choices?

"Philadelphia" is by far his best movie. Just about everything works in that one.

I also like "Splash" though it's light and silly, and also "A League of Their Own" though Hanks has only a supporting role.

Beyond that, nothing strikes me as very good. I guess "Cast Away" is okay, and "Sully" was all right despite the crux of the biopic-plot being fictional.

Films like "Sleepless in Seattle" and "Big" are too anodyne to interest me in any way. They're like the film equivalent of listening to The Carpenters. "Forest Gump" is like an ad for the Republican Party, with its "dumb-is-loveable" and "the-60s'-sure-were-cute!" sub-text. I saw "Catch Me If You Can" once and I had to struggle to stay awake. "Saving Private Ryan" is war-porn.

Despite Hanks' obvious and consistently impressive talents, I do wish he had stretched himself a bit more after his Oscar-period when he could have had literally any movie role he wanted.
