They're still there, I emailed them a short while ago about another OOP disc and I eventually received a terse one-line.
Thanks! The reason I asked, if the label is defunct is because it says that their last release dates all the way back to 2017 (under 'News'). So I was thinking maybe they are merely selling their remaining stock.
They're being cheap. Unless the original format was captured "below" 16 mm, blu ray is always better than DVD. Always.
Sadly, many of these high quality performances haven't been released on CD or DVD, but could be if reissue labels could make it happen. The only live performances which have been released on CD are the acoustic live 1976 1CD (sold exclusively at the Roger Miller museum) and the Silver Eagle Radio show 1CD which was commercially available during the 90s along with numerous other enjoyable live artist performances in the series such as Carl Perkins, Vern Gosdin etc.
I would love to see pictures of that. In fact, if Bear Family just sold the box and book and everything except the CDs, I would totally buy it. Heck, I'd even just like to see the tracklist. The Hip-O box was not quite perfect enough...
I got an cd box called:The Buddy Holly Showcase. 7 CDs with over 70 minutes playing time on each CD.It got lots of live recordings and outtakes from studio.Bootleg, lots of radio broadcast after the plane crash. This is a great box.I cant find information about it on internet.
Might be this one? Buddy Holly - The Buddy I Knew The catalogue number seems to be the same as Showcase. There's also a Purple Chick collection which I think had everything available at the time of issue. But more things have appeared since. Like I said the Hip-O box is pretty great - although flawed. You'll need to add Rollercoaster's "Off The Record" for the complete 'live' collection. I think Bear Family would have done a stunning job, as usual.
Cd-r. I feel pretty ripped off. Haven't listened to it yet to see if it's needle-drops, but I'm not getting my hopes up high.
What a shame. My guess is it's a mix of mp3 rips for the songs available on CD, and vinyl dubs for those not. The irony is that Acrobat is currently releasing the kind of material Bear Family should be focusing on, but reissuing it on a throwaway format.
Yes it is this, but it got anotherer picture. And i got The Hip o Box and another bootleg CD. So there is not much that i am missing.
Been learning about Ric Carty. The guy is responsible for writing 'Young Love' by Sonny James. BF released a disc on CD/Vinyl last year, been checking out Ric's material out online as I'd not heard his stuff before. I see Jerry Reed hung around a bit with him and played sessions with him. I found this song interesting especially the use of the tape echo. Analog tape hounds like myself love this stuff! Listen to how during the song they saturate to the point of overdriving the recording. You can't do that with digital delay! Rockabilly hounds, do you know much about the guy? Like so many, he seemed to have had a short career and then faded into the bliss of time....
