Checked the Import CDs site just now: release date has been rolled back yet again, this time another two weeks, to 10/25.
Only a small handful of FTD releases are out of print. Only the books are advertised as limited editions and even in those cases some of the bonus CDs have been released after they went out of print.
I should have also stated that even in cases when the CDs are out of print the majority of the material on them are in print under different titles. They started off issuing session compilations, like Memphis of Jungle Room, and ended up doing reissues of albums with bonus discs that contained the same material, but lots more. Only a very small amount of music is OOP from them. For the most part, they’ve done nice work.
Here you can read all about FTD CD releases except vinyl: Elvis Presley CD ** Bootleg - RCA - BMG - Sony - FTD - Promotional CDs - Fanclub ** click upper left on follow that dream and see what is deleted or released several times.
CD From Sunset to Las Vegas has been released 2 times. 1 release contains Elvis talking about people that is negative /bad things. On second release 1 minute and 21 seconds is cut.It is not possible to see the difference between 1 and second release, you got to play it to hear it. Girl Happy is released 2 times. 1 edition has some versions that is released by mistake.Speed on tape is to slow on some songs. 2 edition has corrected speed on some songs and has some versions on songs changed. These are the 2 CDs with biggest difference from 1 and second release. Mistakes has happened on some CDs,for these releases a free CD has been sent out with the mistake corrected/fixed. On the CD Flashback cd Flashback : Elvis Presley FTD Book & CD Some of the unreleased versions on this CD was discovered by Richard Weize. When Richard listened through the tapes to Pee Wee King tapes used on the CD box set he found unreleased material with Elvis at the end of the tapes.Elvis recordings/tapes had been reused taping Pee Wee King in studio.
Thanks for the heads-up! As a Merseybeat collector, this is a must buy. I have all the tracks on this, but a few are new to CD. Looking forward to this release. Cheers. She Came From Liverpool! Merseyside Girl-Pop 1962-1968 (Ace)
The Fats has landed! I wish the CDs weren't in a fold-out folio, but no complaints otherwise. I started off with the ninth disc with the speed-corrected performances. The difference is barely noticeablefor the most part, but Fats' voice does sound a little more natural.
A great CD,very good sound and singers: Various Beat mit Tempo1 BCD17235 Vol2: Various Beat mit Tempo2 BCD17237
If anyone in the US has ordered the Fats Box directly from Bear Family would you be able to share what the total cost delivered to your US address was? Was VAT tax deducted?
Shipping cost to Canada was $32.57 US, can't imagine it would be too different for an American address. Not sure about VAT.
$176.53 (but this was back in June with the pre-order price) VAT was deducted. (When you order, write "without VAT" in the comments and they take it off manually.) In other news, it's looking like a great set. Definitely a must-buy upgrade to the old set (if you like Fats, of course.) It would have been nice to add an extra disc with the Mercury Recordings - which I think are the only not-on-official CD recordings - but I imagine Bear Family had their reasons. So what's next for the Bear Famly mega rock-n-roll boxes? Chuck, Jerry Lee, Fats Domono... Little Richard??
I'm painting a sign tonight. I'm going to take it down, with my bucket for money and stand at the exit to the shopping mall. "Need Bear Family. God Bless You for Helping." I hope I don't get arrested on a morals charge by someone who cannot spell.
That would be a perfect box! But at the rate of BF box set issues covering a single artist that is not a remaster/upgrade of a previous box, it would seem like maybe a century or more.
