This is the Rave on LP plus bonus tracks:https://www.bear-family.com/jennings-waylon-just-to-satisfy-you-180g-vinyl.html And here it is on it first release:Waylon Jennings LP: Rave On (LP) - Bear Family Records
Lucille Starr & Canadian Sweethearts CD: Lonely Street - Side By Side Pop & Country plus Bonus Single Sides (CD) - Bear Family Records
I guess there is best sound on this release, because of shorter playing time on LP.Shorter playing time is better sound: Waylon Jennings LP: Rave On (LP) - Bear Family Records The grooves on the vinyl is much wider on this vinyl release, more space for low frequences.
That's true, but I'm pretty sure the 'Just To Satisfy You' release uses the original Master Tape as used on the SACD version. The 'sonics' are a class above. I have both album releases.
Resistance is futile. I must order this asap. Anyone know of a retailer in the USA who is stocking this?
I love the way it looks when the lid is removed, how all the disc covers make up a picture. I'll go back to one of the pet hates for many, discs in cardboard sleeves. I wonder why they don't at least make these with a LP style plastic inner, and then put the disc in the cardboard sleeve? As such: Probably a good idea to have a bunch of these on hand for such releases to put on yourself........
My favorite Bear Family release today The Prisonaires – Just Walkin' In The Rain Despite the somewhat amateurish cover, the music is sublime and the booklet is the usual BF quality, jam packed with info, discography and photos.
Steelguitar tribute to The Byrds. Lloyd green played on the original Byrds original recording. Lloyd Green & Jay Dee Maness CD: Journey To The Beginning - A Steel Guitar Tribute To The Byrds (CD) - Bear Family Records
Another one: The Prisonaires & The Marigolds CD: Only Believe...Unissued And Rare Nashville.. - Bear Family Records
Arrived early. Delightful variety, ands at this time, very seasonal. Perhaps I can hope for a future Spring Themed VA disk?
Oh yeah, that's on my want list too. I just bought a ton of Sun material on Bear so need to refill the coffers first. Thank you for the recommendation.
Funny, I didn't get notifications for this thread since Sunday. Tangenially BF-related note: I highly recommend checking out Ronnie Self's mostly-unreleased later recordings. After parting with Columbia, Self recorded a handful of singles and a whole lot of demos. Stylistically oscillating between garage rock and Roger Miller-brand country, he presents a portrait of domestic disillusionment: An overbearing and distrustful wife, kids who won't eat their dinner, substance abuse, and a yearning for freedom. The most complete collection of these demos is this rare LP which someone graciously uploaded to YT: Ronnie Self - Rockin' Ronnie Self There's also a CD with a partially-overlapping selection of demo material plus earlier live radio performances in decent-to-poor quality. Ronnie Self - Mr. Frantic Is Boppin´ The Blues This is allgedly the last recording Self is known to have made, available on the above CD. His young kids help him through "Waitin' for the Gin to Hit Me" a couple months before the gin laid him low in 1981. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q14FpDOkNag It seems to be mainly Japanese releases that have a nice inner sleeve like that. They've mastered the mini LP format.
Damn, the Bobby Bare Sings Shel Silverstein Plus box set is $249.99 on Amazon USA (released October 23)
I have the Joe Maphis -Flying Fingers (1997) Bear Family single disc coming today. Curious how the mastering is compared to the Columbia/Sony disc from 2001.
I just received mine yesterday and listened to it all today. I'm so happy they decided to keep this series going and have my fingers crossed for more volumes soon. The Jimmie Davis "Cherokee Boogie" is very welcome and makes me want to search out more of his output after the period his Bear Family sets cover. Once question I have is on Grady Martin's "Long John Boogie," the vocalist is Don Cherry. Is this the same Don Cherry who recorded "Band of Gold" and later worked with Willie Nelson?
There's a great offer on this set atm and I'm tempted, what's your opinion Mr H if you've had a chance to give it a run through?
Thanks for the reminder that it's now available! Also picked up King Size Taylor's Brits Are Rocking CD. And yes, it's that same Don Cherry. He recorded with dozens of bands in the early 50's.
Enjoy the Kingsize Taylor Disc. It’s really well done and a great listen. Another Liverpool rocker, Lee Curtis, is coming up soon in the Brits Are Rocking series.
