Because we only get one vote. Whilst Soundtracks could be higher, I'm equally surprised at Monster Movie. The trouble with Soundtracks is that it is a compilation of commissioned film work. It is a bit uneven and, I think I said earlier, that even the band did not consider it to be their album No. 2 - meaning it was not intended as an album statement in the way the others were. But soundtracks would be higher if we had more votes, I think. If I could vote for more than one, I'd end up with something like this as a running order. 1. Tago Mago 1. Ege Baymasi 3. Future Days 4. Monster Movie 4. Soundtracks 6. Limited Edition.
I love it, but it's not my favorite. I suspect others feel the same way. As Mr. Datsun said up above, you only get one vote. I do particularly love "Mother Sky", though.
You keep saying this. You actually seem annoyed by the fact that you don't like it, whilst others do. Maybe you just don't know how to listen to it, yet. Have you tried the 33 1/3 book on Tago Mago? I haven't read it myself, but perhaps it would help you to appreciate sides 3 and 4, which readers of these Can threads will know are the two sides that irk you. Can't think what else to suggest really. It's you not the music, and only one of those two things can change.
My favorite Can album is Ege Bamyasi. But Soundtracks includes one of my most beloved songs by them : She brings the rain
That is within the range of possible lists I'd make (I don't know if I did or not on this thread but I mean some days that works for me, Future Days can be higher sometimes though) I voted for Soundtracks but who knows
Tago Mago 100% Halleluhwah with a good set of headphones and "in the right frame of mind" is one of the most amazing, just unexplainable listening experiences.
I just read the 33 1/3 book on Tago Mago. The writer described Can as an "athletic" band. Those drums sure do get a workout!
I wonder too, I've had it on my kindle for a few years but I haven't had a Can phase since I got it so I'm saving it...
