I am a "Sysyphus" fan. Too bad he never did anything else much like it as far as I know.

As pointed out in other Floyd discussions here, research has proven Richard Wright contributed a helluva lot more to The Wall than some folks -i.e. Roger Waters, David Gilmour or Bob Ezrin- would have one believe. Rick does play keyboards on just about every track as it turns out.

I put Summer 68 because I love that song, my favourite track on the B side of AHM, although Great Gig is such a masterful piece of music.

Fabulous song, and recording. Great (and very ordered) guitars by Syd, even at that late stage.

I haven't heard many of the songs on the poll list as I do not have the earlier Floyd albums. The earliest album is Atom Heart Mother. I need to pickup the first four albums. My pick which it doesn't appear to be a popular one is Wearing The Inside Out. Really like the song especially in 5.1 from the Division Bell Immersion set Blu-ray.

Interestingly had a long gestation - the basic tracks were done in Autumn 1968. Took nearly two years to complete.

I went with “Summer ‘68,” but I really like all his pre-Dark Side contributions, especially “Remember a Day” and “Stay.” Even though he doesn’t get a lot of credit, there was a time when Richard Wright was on level with Gilmour and Waters in terms of songwriting.

It was mentioned as such on the wiki. That's why I specified 'written without any other Pink Floyd' members :)

Yes you really, really do. I cannot stress how much I love the first 2, and the other 2 are masterful as well. More has an impeccable atmosphere.

I feel as though he's the George Harrison of the band, except opposite in that he had less involvement as the band went on, unfortunately.

Also a huge fan of the brief piano solo in Us and Them, very European, sort of modal? Don't know the right term, but it has a life of its own to these ears. Vital part of the song... More so than the chorus, even. :hide:

It was a tough choice for me, between Paintbox & Remember A Day, but I went with Remember...

Was Julia Dream not a Wright composition?

I voted for Remember a Day . IMO it has all the weirdness wrapped inside a beautiful melody that initially attracted me to Pink Floyd.

The demo, included on the box set for The Dark Side of the Moon, is gorgeous, although it could use a little bit of editing IMO. Although the "Riot Scene" alternate on The Early Years is too short!

"Remember A Day" is my favorite by far but I love all of these songs, even "Sysyphus." I really have an affection for "It Would Be So Nice" because it was so demeaned historically. I think it's quite a cute little pop confection. I used to HATE "See-Saw" but I've come to appreciate it after many listenings. "Stay" is also an enduring favorite.

If I were doing the list, I'd include "Burning Bridges" because it's also a Wright/Waters collab, and his dual vocal with Gilmour is uncommonly beautiful.

I love "Paintbox." I think it's the 1968 equivalent of "Because I Got High."

I had to sample most of the tracks to recall them, as I don't really know pre-Dark Side Floyd as well as post. I can't say I really liked any of these, other than "Great Gig In The Sky" and maybe "Summer '68". Voted for GGITS. I do recall "Wearing The Inside Out" as I thought the vocals were awful and Richard should have just let Gilmour sing that one.

Richard Wright was in my opinion, the most overlooked member of Pink Floyd. His keyboard player was really essential to their sound and in the early days, his vocals paired with Syd Barrett's, really gave the atmosphere to The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. If you watch some of the David Gilmour live video's where Rick Wright is on keyboards, they really capture that Pink Floyd sound.

I'm surprised that the band, and Wright included, have been so dismissive about Remember a Day. Not only is a well written song, I think it gets extra points for having Syd on it. His slide guitar is excellent and his backing vocals add something special to it. He must have been fairly lucid at the time of its recording

Seriously, all of them! Due the limitation I picked 'Paintbox' here.
One of my favorite Floyd members (the others are Syd and David).

Love this track. Sad it was placed as a single's b-side, I wish the song was on a second Syd/Floyd album.

I'm surprised by how few Rick tracks there are. They're all wonderful ...
I love his e-piano intro to "Sheep", the chord choice there pure Rick.

"Paintbox" still haunts, the lyric creating a picture of a lost moment. My fave, if I must choose; though I find the underlying melancholy (and tonality) of all these tracks a special flavour in the Floyd canon. Without them, I doubt I'd still love the Pink Floyd as much as I do.

Addendum -- I simply must mention Broken China.

I think it’s the best shot at attempting a Syd style song that any of the other band members wrote.

And one of my favourite Pink Floyd songs for that matter.

"Great Gig In The Sky" is mind-blowing, but I chalk at least half or more of that up to Clare Torry's vocals.

I chose "Paintbox", a marvelous song that stands up with much of the Piper-era work, and one that Rick himself sings on.
