Hm, I've never thought about this before. I'll try to think of it in terms of guitar playing, sounds, and styles, and ignore songwriting. Let me give it a go...

I like all the usual suspects but my favourites are probably not quite as obvious:

    Steve Lukather:
He can play anything and he is a master at giving a song just what it needs. He can shred, he can solo, he can emote so well...phenomenal player.

    Fridrik Karlsson
Icelandic guitar player best known as a founding member of the jazz-funk instrumentalists Mezzoforte. The Live In Reykjavik 2007 DVD really shows just how good he is - the studio recordings (especially pre-1996) don’t always do him justice in my opinion.

    Derek Trucks
Just a genius - I’ve never heard him play the same thing twice. Midnight In Harlem solo alone is some of the best slide playing I’ve ever listened to.

    Lindsey Buckingham
Similar to the way The Edge gets his own unique sound out of a guitar, this guy is a monster - mega-fast finger-picking drenched in delay creating these epic sound collages - best heard in his solo work.

    Jeff Baxter
Another guy who is just total class. He just always comes up with the best parts and some of my favourite ever solos. His three solos on My Old School and his work on Living On the Faultline are incredible.

Based on the entirely subjective yardstick of my belief that I could listen to them play all day, I’d say Duane Allman, Santana, Neil Young, Hendrix, and Slash, with lots of honorable mentions.

Love the Scotty Moore choice. Don't see that often but I love it! Well played.
