In the same vain as the CD thread. There must be lots of vinyl enthusiasts that have been searching for that illusive record, that one record that for years we've been looking for but either can't find, or when we do find it it's a sub-par copy that's scratched so we pass on it, or it's priced out of our reach. For me since I've been collecting records I've wanted records that are normally first pressings, 60's or 70's releases and for that reason they normally command high prices out of my reach so I have to just window shop. I hate window shopping! I had a first pressing of joy Divisions Unknown Pleasures in translucent red vinyl, I sold it 16 years ago along with all my other records in a mad fit at a bootsale probably for about £3, and have ever since regretted it. It was all in near mint condition, both record and sleeve, and although they come up on Discogs fairly regularly I pass as the price has escalated beyond my means. I also had The Factory Sample, original first pressing albeit without the stickers, and I still regret selling that. That went for just £40 on EBay. If could replace either of those i'd be a happy bunny... But alas I think it'll never happen, especially with The Factory Sample. Holy grail, and if applicable like me.. records you sold, then regretted and can't replace.
Yes, it was very limited. When Andrew Wood (Lead Singer) died a couple of weeks before it's release, Polydor didn't promote it at all so I think the first press was the only press and it just dropped out of sight.
Think just one on my list. Lightning Seeds-Tilt, 1999 UK Promo Too expensive to see if it contains a less compressed mastering. Doubtful.
PP Arnold - The First Lady of Immediate Francoise Hardy - One Nine Seven Zero I'd love quality reissues of these.
My Striker LP. A local Seattle hard rock band of the late 70's that got signed to Arista records. Signed by all 4 at a promotional event at a local record store. I just can't find it. I must have added it to a 'sell' pile during the dreaded vinyl sell off period in the 90's.
Don't know if it is a Holy Grail, but I would love to hear Pop Start the Tape, Stop by Henry Threadgill's Zooid. It was an LP on the Hardedge label in 2004. I have never seen it for sale used or new.
I thought this was covered elsewhere but what the heck. My LP Holy Grail is Alex Harvey ~ Roman Wall Blues (1969) It's the last album I need to complete my Alex Harvey catalogue. Rarely does it come up for auction and when it does, it commands prices in excess of $400-500. I've been sniped on it a couple times a few years back losing for $1.00
My favourite album is Marvin Gaye’s What’s Goin’ On. So I’m looking forward to (hopefully) getting the new MFSL One Step vinyl. (It’s not my holy grail, but the reviews for MFSL’s equivalent One Step Santana Abraxas sound pretty stupendous, and as an album I like very much, sounds tempting).
An original UK first pressing of "King Crimson - Red" . Original US pressing RL cut of RATM debut. An 320 German original analog pressing of Soundgarden's Superunknown. Mötley Crüe's S/T 94 album. Skid Row - Subhuman Race. *Not to mention all in M or NM condition.......................dream on dude!
I think someone on this forum mentioned that PP Arnold reissues were due this year. I noticed it, because I would snap up TFLOI in a heartbeat.
Holy grail? For a long time it was Queens Of The Stone Age's debut album on Man's Ruin but I got it in November. At the moment? Well... nothing pressing. I mean... there are many oop albums, I'd love to have but nothing that couldn't be obtained with 50-100€. And I don't think PJ Harvey's "Is This Desire" is worth 250€+. This is one of the cases where a reissue will do nicely. On second thought I guess my grails would be completely elusive things like a signed mono original of "The Velvet Underground & Nico" or a Mercury UK original of Bowies "The Man Who Sold The World".
I will violate the single LP question and instead say that, as a huge Aimee Mann fan - I would love to collect all of her titles on vinyl - especially Whatever, I'm With Stupid, Lost In Space, Bachelor No , The Forgotten Arm and Smilers. Not sure if that is ever going to happen though.
The original 1975 pressing of Hiroshi Suzuki's Cat album. One available on Discogs for $800 Hiroshi Suzuki - Cat (Vinyl, Japan, 1975) For Sale | Discogs Which means I'll have to buy the 2015 re-issue which is more fairly priced but the last modern Japanese pressed LP I bought wasn't too impressive, mastering-wise. Also vinyl quality was nothing like the 70s-80s era.
