the band underworld, was one of the first bands i was trying to hunt down every single 12 inch, record, promo, etc. this was one of the first major 12 inches i got: https://www.discogs.com/Underworld-Mmm-Skyscraper-I-Love-You/release/98208 Underworld – Mmm... Very nice choices. Wire being one of my favourite band’s, I was lucky enough to find a Pink Flag UK original at a thrift shop here for $50NZ ($75US) in VG+/VG+ shape. Was a grail for me too..
Id love to find a Japanese first press (with the obi) of AC/DC - Powerage. Chances of finding one in the wild are next to nil unless I go to Japan. Discogs prices are up there..
I am sure you already know but I thought I would say it all the same, the first actual pressing of this, the front cover is laminated and the back isn't!
I don’t think so, no. I’m just trying to gather up a few of my favourite albums on Japanese vinyl, I like the quality. The one’s I’ve heard so far sound great and I like the extras, obi strip’s, inner’s with lyrics etc..
I've been on a ruinously expensive hunt for classic British jazz releases from the mid-60s to mid-70s, and have picked up a few 'almost' Holy Grails. However, this one eludes me: https://www.discogs.com/Mike-Taylor-Quartet-Pendulum/release/2331255 ...and frankly, I couldn't afford it if it did. The consolation is the the (also now rare) CD release on Sunbeam is a fantastic sounding disc.
Skip Spence - OAR Big Star - "3rd" Lightnin' Hopking - "Lightnin' And The Blues" - Herald Lightnin' Hopkins - "Mojo Hand"
Almost impossible to find in good condition! I have a copy that sounds VG+, but one song has a skip and a stick (2000 Light Years From Home). It stinks because the rest sounds amazing, way better than a U.S. Mono or Stereo. For the skipped song, I play the Stereo version from "Through The Past Darkly".
"Forget About It" Alison Krauss on Rounder "Dublin Blues" Guy Clark Dualtone "Mirror Blue" Richard Thompson on Capitol "Before These Crowded Streets" DMB Always looking for these. Not paying insane money for any of them. But a reasonable profit by the seller is not a deal breaker.
I ain't sayin'! If I do, I'm afraid the price will go up. I have a few LP holy grails that don't mean anything to most folks - i.e. they're scarce but not highly desirable (until I let people know I'm after them). Here's one I already have. About 100 of these were pressed:
What I found working for a record store was that it was too much about the numbers. Yes, I was surrounded by music fans, with whom to have fun conversations, and got good deals on records - but it was a business first - so at least as the youngster I was who didn't yet know how things worked, that was a big disappointment. This was Licorice Pizza back in the early to mid '80's.
I didn't know this variant from tears for fears had a new mix of 'change' on it. i had to buy 3 other records which didn't have it, until i found the correct Canadian version. https://www.discogs.com/Tears-For-Fears-Change/release/1709289 Tears For Fears – Change Label: Vertigo – SOVX 2322 Format: Vinyl, 12", 45 RPM, Single Country: Canada Released: 1983 Genre: Electronic Style: Synth-pop TracklistShow Credits A Change (Extended Version) 5:51 B1 Change 5:11 B2 The Conflict 4:02 Total Time: 15:04 Happy to get it, and it was pretty cheap, and still is, and easy to find now. later -1
For decades I was after the Canadian version of Duane Eddy's Have Twangy Guitar Will Travel - for copyright reasons some previously-issued single tracks had to be left off and replaced by others not otherwise available. I finally found a decent, affordable copy in Canada - postage to the UK cost more than the record itself, but thank goodness for the internet!
nope, it's the new mix: Credits listed on labels incorrectly differ from rear sleeve: A. Change (Extended Version), Producer: Chris Hughes, Engineer: Ross Cullum B1: Change, Produced by Tears For Fears and Ian Stanley. B2: The Conflict, Produced by Chris Hughes. Although not indicated on the sleeve or labels, this release features an alternative "new version" of "Change" on Side B instead of the 7" version which appears on most other international editions of this single. Durations not listed on release. Different lyrics, additional lyrics, different structure. Was on a UK cassette also. later -1
Mine continues to be an original pressing of 'Dark Round The Edges' by Dark. There were originally only 64 copies pressed in 1972. This, coupled with the fact that the most recent one sold went for approximately £25,000, probably means that I won't be getting my hands on one soon - at least, not in this lifetime!
ok, this was a real 'holy' grail for me. big country released their debut album in 1983. this is the very rare 30th anniversary 2xlp from the UK, with exclusive tracks that never made it to CD. i tried ordering it from one place, but they were out of stock. fortunately i found another seller, and approximately 8 years ago i got it. https://www.discogs.com/Big-Country-The-Crossing/release/3383586 Big Country – The Crossing Label: Universal Music Group – 278 909-1, Mercury Records Ltd. – 278 909-1 Format: 2 × Vinyl, LP, Album, Limited Edition, Reissue, Remastered, Stereo, 30th Anniversary Edition Country: UK Released: 27 Jan 2012 Genre: Rock Style: Alternative Rock, New Wave TracklistShow Credits A1 In A Big Country 4:43 A2 Inwards 4:35 A3 Chance 4:25 A4 1,000 Stars 3:52 A5 The Storm 6:21 B1 Harvest Home 4:19 B2 Lost Patrol 4:51 B3 Close Action 4:15 B4 Fields Of Fire 3:32 B5 Porrohman 7:51 C1 1,000 Stars (Chris Thomas Mix) 4:12 C2 Lost Patrol (Chris Thomas Mix) 4:58 C3 Inwards (Chris Thomas Mix) 4:09 C4 Close Action (Chris Thomas Mix) 3:50 D1 The Crossing (Chris Thomas Instrumental Mix) 6:50 D2 Porrohman (Chris Thomas Instrumental Mix) 7:58 D3 Angle Park (Chris Thomas Instrumental Mix) 4:12 D4 Heart And Soul (Chris Thomas Instrumental Mix) 5:17 Total Time: 1:30:10 Mercury Records Ltd. – 278 909-1 Copyright (c) – Mercury Records Ltd. – 278 909-1 Distributed By – Universal Music – 278 909-1 Recorded At – The Manor – 278 909-1 Recorded At – RAK Studios – 278 909-1 Remastered At – The Audio Archiving Company – 278 909-1 Published By – EMI 10 Music Ltd. – 278 909-1 [paste:font size="4"]Credits Compilation Producer [Research & Compiled] – Dermot James Mixed By – Chris Thomas (tracks: C1 to D4) Notes Gatefold Cover From the Universal Shop Homepage: "Universal Music are proud to announce the release of an expanded vinyl edition of Big Country’s debut album, The Crossing. i love the electronic soul band 'go west', and collected their singles early on. trouble was, i was in the US, so i missed out on all the UK and exclusive mixes. fortunately later on, was able to get most of them. one of them was for the song 'call me', which had a limited release, much like a lot of singles back then. this 'kitchen sink' mix was odd, because it was the same mix, with a different EQ. i still can't tell the difference. maybe there were some mispressings. anyways, i bought 2 uk copies, 2 spanish copies, and a german one, and i'm still not sure i have the right one. https://www.discogs.com/Go-West-Call-Me-The-Indiscriminate-Kitchen-Sink-Mix/release/1391809 Go West – Call Me - The Indiscriminate (Kitchen Sink) Mix Label: Chrysalis – GOWX 1 Format: Vinyl, 12", 45 RPM Country: UK Released: 1985 Genre: Electronic, Rock Style: Pop Rock, Synth-pop Tracklist A Call Me - The Indiscriminate (Kitchen Sink) Mix 6:38 B1 Eye To Eye (The Horizontal Mix) 5:08 B2 The Man In My Mirror 4:35 Total Time: 16:21 later -1
The Verve - Snakeskin 7" Only 5 were ever pressed. The only one to ever hit the market went for about $8,000 As far as I know it's the the only Verve song I've never heard. Outside of that it would be any Kraftwerk studio recordings with Klaus Dinger and Michael Rother.
