Top 100? wow, I won't go that far, but I'll give it a shot.. here goes- At The Chicken Shack[Jimmy Smith]- Love Moods[Nat King Cole]- Perfect Angel[Minnie Riperton]- Temptin Temptations[The Temptations]- A Quiet Storm[Smokey]- Never Ending Impressions[The Impressions]- Time Out[Dave Brubeck]- A Lonely Man[The Chi-lites]- Greatest Hits[Clyde McPhatter]...that's it for now but I'll be back!!
I’ve just looked again at my list (posted way upthread) and determined that 95 albums aren’t going anywhere (for now) but 5 need a review. The first to go under the microscope? Rory Gallagher self-titled. And it passed with flying colors.
I think RS did a very decent job with this list. Paradize would have been T0p 5 for me and I woud have possibly switched the positions of the two Les Rita Mitsouko albums around. I don't know them all and there a good few glaring ommissions but the ones I've highlighted above are fantastic albums.
A top five would be something like Paramore - Paramore Kate Bush - Hounds of Love Slipknot - Iowa PJ Harvey - Rid of Me Björk - Homogenic
I have a running list of 100 or slightly more albums that are my 'essential' collection, many -- possibly somewhat insanely -- owned across multiple formats like vinyl, CD and FLAC. In no specific grouping or ranking: Simple Minds Sparkle in the Rain Television Marquee Moon Alphaville Forever Young The Specials The Specials Roxy Music Stranded The Stranglers Rattus Norvegicus David Bowie Station to Station [or Low] Donna Summer Once Upon A Time Yellow Magic Orchestra Solid State Survivor Kate Bush The Kick Inside The Adverts Crossing the Red Sea With The Beatles Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band [or Revolver] Pet Shop Boys Actually Alain Bashung Osez Joséphine Procol Harum Procol Harum Dexys Midnight Runners Searching For The Young Soul Rebels Propaganda A Secret Wish The Jam Sound Affects Indochine Paradize Bryan Ferry Boys and Girls Kula Shaker K Hazel O'Connor Breaking Glass Röyksopp Melody A.M. You just shamed me...I have no JJ Cale (got some great Tony Joe White, though...). Just ordered Troubadour from Acoustic Sounds.
