Moving Pictures Signals Hemispheres 2112 Permanent Waves I tried, but I don't like anything after Grace Under Pressure . . .
I am enjoying seeing the love for both this and Presto, which ranks high for me as well. I am never surprised at the variety that Rush fans enjoy, because their catalog is so versatile and embraces so many different trends, but it is still refreshing. +1 on this. I had really gotten into the album when I got the blu, but it definitely adds another level of understanding. My only laments are the rearranged song order, and dropping BU2B, which is IMO the lynchpin of the album's message. Changes aren't permanent, but change is. What strikes me as odd is how much Alex disliked the synth era, but how much material from Grace and Power Windows they played late into their run. My guess is that Geddy's vocal range may have contributed to that, but still struck me as odd.
that one tour a few tours before the end when they did that first set with all the Grace and Power material was fantastic. It was almost nostalgia for someone my age (first show was 1986). I think when people listen to Power Windows they get overburdened by the synths but Alex really finds a way to shine with some of his better guitar work. Just an opinion, others might disagree.
Oh, I do agree. It just seemed that Alex had really soured on that stuff by the time Roll The Bones had come around. I wasn't sure if his interest was reinvigorated or if he liked those two albums and not the others.
While I love everything from 2112 to Roll the Bones..... 1. Moving Pictures(No weak songs) 2. Signals 3. Permanent Waves 4. Power Windows 5. Presto(A few weak songs, but two of my all-time favorite Rush songs)
Good list! We agree on most of these, I would substitute Fly by Night for Snakes & Arrows and move Vapor Trails to #1.
An additional note: Considering all the bashing that goes on around it, Caress of Steel sure comes up in a lot of top 5 lists here. My personal favorite.
I love 'em all, of course, but these formed the basis for my lifelong fandom... Caress Of Steel All The World's A Stage A Farewell To Kings Hemispheres 2112 I've listened to more Rush this year than any other. RIP Professor.
In no order (except Hemispheres side 1 is my favorite) Hemispheres Permanent Waves Moving Pictures A Farewell to Kings Signals
I noticed that as well. It really surprises me and I wonder how much of it is people who came to Rush in a certain way. For instance, my first two albums were Permanent Waves and Power Windows and I think that figures a lot into which era I appreciate most.
Impossible! I can't do it. I won't do it! Oh, alright then... Right now and in no particular order: Caress Of Steel (yes really...) Hemispheres Moving Pictures Signals A Farewell To Kings
Huge fan. I wanted nothing more than to be a DJ and to find my very own Bailey Quarters. Neither happened...
The distance between my top 5 and my top 7 is razor thin. If ties are allowed then please include Caress and 2112. FBN and GuP right behind that.
First blush list: 1. Moving Pictures 2. Permanent Waves 3. A Farewell To Kings 4. Signals 5. Hold Your Fire
The first two are easy, the others may be up to some debate. 1. Moving Pictures 2. Permanent Waves 3. 2112 4. Signals 5. Clockwork Angels PS Passage to Bangkok is song #1 (at least if your lighting up a big fat doobie!)
1) Hemispheres 2) Moving Pictures 3) Permanent Waves 4) A Farewell To Kings 5) 2112 If we were doing a top 6, Caress Of Steel would have been next. Very underappreciated album, imo.
