I would guess the vast majority of bands that started in the early 70s and lasted through to the end of the decade had some personnel changes. The Doobie Bros adding another singer/keyboardist was a significant change but they aren't 2 different bands because of it.

Some of the most talent musicians produce some of the most boring music.

Miles ciraca 79 to around 73/74 May be number one but the lineup changed so much that it’s hard to think of it as one band.

Bruce was a solo artist - he couldn't be pushed out of a band.

And obviously the music industry writ large didn't hate Seger too much since he continued to get contracts!

Not in the least. Obviously it's opinion, but I find that musicians who excel in technical ways are often pretty boring in terms of the music they produce.

Yngwie Malmsteen boasts incredible skill as a guitarist, but his music is awful, for instance...

    Better is definitely subjective.

For example, I prefer Starcastle to Seventies Yes (though I like the latter well enough) despite the fact they are often dismissed as Yes wannabes. However, I feel I am in a pretty select group with this opinion. :)

There was more to my comment than just that one post.

In my experience, it's people who can't recognize or appreciate or understand TALENT that are most likely to be "bored".
Those people tend to be the same people that can never finish a complete book; can't sit through a movie more than 1.5 hours long (that Lawrence of Arabia was SO boring--all those scenes of the desert...); can't handle attending a classical symphony orchestra performance (why does Bruckner have repetitive passages?); and don't have the patience to understand or appreciate the complexity of long form progressive compositions such as Close to the Edge, Echoes, Suppers Ready etc.
    Imo.

Awesome! So those Valhalla CDs did reproduce the album liner notes, like the first one had kind of a mini band biography? Will be interested in what you think after listening (maybe back over in the underrated 70s thread?).

You’re right and I do like both incarnations of the band. I know many people that loved the Tom Johnston years and loathed the Michael McDonald era, and vice versa. Either way it was a great bands and one that should be commended because it avoided being frozen in time.

Your preferences aren't correct. They're just your preferences. People with different preferences than you aren't inferior for that.

Please stop putting words I didn't use in my mouth in order to spin your straw man argument. I never used the word "inferior". I was responding to a comment about boredom and used the word patience. I also specifically said "in my experience" and "imo". And I'm bored with your trolling, so bye bye.

I read complete books - long ones! - and sit through long movies all the time, yet I find prog boring for the most part.

This kind of "if you don't like prog, you're too stupid to understand" attitude is a large reason why so many people go into prog with a negative attitude.

Complex doesn't necessarily = good, and simple doesn't automatically = bad. :shh:

Wow. You're certainly personalizing a general comment. Wasnt talking specifically about you. Again, I never said any of those things you spun my comment into. I also never said "all complex songs are good and all short or simple songs are bad". I also said "in my experience" and "imo".

Sure so you don't think it's true that it's better to read complete books, to appreciate longer films, long classical music pieces, etc.?
